Brownie experts, I need your help.

I want to make this recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/p...ipe/index.html but I don't want to use brownie mix. I, however, not being a chocolate fan, have never made brownies! So I'm looking for a relatively easy recipe that would take the place of boxed brownies.

The reviews for the recipe say that the brownie batter should be prepared "cake" style rather than "fudgy" style, and to use two boxes instead of one.

So given that, do you have any tried and true brownie recipes that would work for this?

Leave out the ginger, and bake for the full allotted time. You'll need to double the recipe. But this is my absolute favorite brownie recipe of all time - be sure you use a good unsweetened chocolate, not Baker's. I use Ghirardelli when I can find it.

I just follow the recipe on the back of the cocoa container, and it's super easy. Sorry, not much help. Toffee brownies sound yummy!

I agree - great simple recipe on the box of baking cocoa...or there are some great organic brownie mixes out there if you don't feel like buying a box of cocoa you won't use in the future. Pamela's Products makes an awesome brownie mix (it is also gluten free...even though you aren't necessarily look for that...)

This is my favorite brownie recipe. They're good with or with out the icing and I'm thinking with the toffee you'd leave out the icing. You'd just need to double the recipe in order to make enough for a 9x13 pan

Here's my brownie recipe - although it's more "fudgy" than "cakey".

1 cup/250 mL sugar

1/2 cup/125 mL unsweetened cocoa

1/2 cup/125 mL whole wheat flour

6 Tbsp/75 mL melted butter

2 eggs

1 tsp/5 mL vanilla

1/2 cup/125 mL chopped nuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 325F/160C. Grease a square baking pan.

In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the sugar, cocoa and flour.
Stir in the melted butter.
Add the eggs and vanilla.
Add the (optional) nuts.
Mix well.
Spread batter in the greased pan.
Bake until the brownies are shiny on top, and have pulled away slightly from the edges of the pan (about 30 minutes).
Let cool before cutting.
