... if there were a button at the bottom of each post to click, to "like" the post. The count of "likes" clicked would be tallied next to the button. This is available in the Internet comments section in the NYTimes. It's also available on Facebook, but the name of the people who clicked "like" can be listed in addition to the number.
The nice thing about that feature is that it allows readers to quickly make their opinion known even if they don't have hands free to type. I know people will sometimes quote an earlier post with just a "yeah that," but often I don't feel strongly enough to do that... or I just don't want to take up a bunch of additional real estate in the thread being redundant. It also would be helpful to the OP on those threads that get lots of hits but fewer replies. It would be a way to get a better sense of the community's opinions.
I presume the software used for the board doesn't have this capability, but if it ever does, I think that would be a nice addition to the forums. It's something I find myself wishing for quite often.
