Lansinoh question - it's hard & needs to be warmed?

i bought some Lansinoh and have a question about one of the reviews i saw - it said that it starts off very hard and you have to warm it in your hand before you try to put it on.

for those who use it, do you find this to be true?

I usually would squeeze a small amount onto my fingertips & then rub them together for a minute & when it felt more lotiony I would apply it to my nipples. It is pretty sticky stuff though.

i did the same as pp's...or kinda massage the tube in your hand for a moment... use a tiny little bit, my babe didn't mind it at all, but i did use cloth breast pads as a barrier between my bra and the cream... and be careful of your skin in case it sticks -ouch! i also found i only needed less than one tube for my firstborn (weaned @ almost 3yrs)and not at all for my second...and i only used it in the beginning of nursing...
don't stress about it.... it will work out, once you and your babe get to know each other!
and be patient

It was easier for me to warm it up in the tube, and then squeeze it out. I kept the tube tucked into the waistband of my pants, or just somewhere on me, so my body heat made it lotiony. I found that I needed much less when I warmed it first instead of trying to squeeze out and then warm a huge hard lump of it.

Also, this has been my favorite LIP BALM for months now!! Try it! I've been done using it for a while on nipples, but when we were in KS where it was FREEZING at New years, the heat wasn't working, etc. It was wayyyy too hard to get any of it out..so I slept with it lol. When I woke up to feed DS and got back in bed, it was nice and soft to put on my lips. hehe.

DS btw loves holding the tube, turning it around and chewing on it when we lay in bed in the morning. It lets me lay down a bit longer lol.

This is getting OT, but totally, it's the best lip balm EVER. I've been using it on my lips and ashy parts for years and years and years. DH even started asking "where's your udder cream" when he gets dry skin.

I have an OT question, does it go bad?

ETA: I have a bottle that is nearly 2 years old and doesn't SEEM bad... I am due to have our second child any day now.

I rubbed a little in between my fingers too but it was still pretty sticky. It doesn't take much either. I hardly used any of my bottle also, it's still sitting in my medicine cabinet. They gave it to me at the hospital and it was MORE than enough.

Putting tube next to your body (pocket, under your leg, etc) while nursing works good to soften it up just before use.

I got Bag Balm for dry skin, diaper rash, and my craked feet. It's a bit cheaper and easier to put on because it has petroleum jelly mixed in (so not for nips), but it works really well. All my boys use it, especially when they get heat rashes around thier parts.

I put a bit on my finger, then put my finger up to my open mouth and breathe one nice, long, deep, hot breath onto it. Warms up and turns slick instantly.

Wow. That sounds almost sensual.

OMG yes. I never really needed it for my nipples, but after I had my first son my lips were so dry, split, bleeding, etc. it was disgusting and hurt to smile. Holy crap did the lasinoh do the trick!

Yep! We use it on pretty much everything. Cuts, scrapes, lips, dry skin, diaper rash, etc.....ETA: I've actually used it on my nipples only once. But we keep it in the house for everything else.

It is the BEST lip balm! I use that stuff for everything LOL I usually just keep it in a warm area in the house so that it doesn't get too hard to squeeze out.

There IS an expiration, but I don't think it goes bad. My mom said she still has some and it lasts forever.

Sometimes I would put mine in a mug of hot water before a nursing session. Then it was perfect for after.
