My baby girl is dying

And I feel like a horrible catmom . She has hyperthyroidism and has been on meds for about 3 years. She's always been a skittish girl and takes to hanging out behind the couches for a good many hours. She comes out at night and gives love .

So that issue always gave me a problem giving her meds. Before I had DS, I had the time to move furniture and chase her down. But in the past few months, especially since DS has gotten SO active, well, kittygirl has missed a few doses here and there and YES I feel awful about it. Lately, I'm noticing that she's way off her food and losing weight again, a lot of weight. She's still a sweety lovey pie but really thinning down and I know it's not good. I've been making sure she's getting both doses of meds every day without fail. I'm trying to tempt her with people food but she'll only take a bite or two. I'm heartbroken.

I'm going to take her in to the vet to get a blood medication level drawn. If that's okay then I know the disease is progressing and it's just a waiting game. I just have a bad feeling, I just *know*. She's almost 15 and I won't let them do anything more invasive than the blood draw. No way.

Sorry for the rambling, I'm just sad.

Have you tried Transdermal tapazole? It is easier to give than pills. (Just an ointment that is rubbed on the ear) With a well controled thyroid they can live happy, healthy lives for a long time.

I am so sorry. When my kitty was sick at the end (they thought it was brain tumors) to try to entice him to eat I'd drain the water off of tuna into a bowl and measure out what I thought would be a tuna water serving for him and a small amount of the actual tuna. I'd mix it up so he could easily still lap it up without having to put forth much effort. I know its not recommended in the long term, but if it helps her for right now......

I also tried jar baby food, yuck! He wouldn't give it a second sniff. And the store had some kind of gourmet healthy option of salmon or ocean fish food just for kitties.

There may be something else going on. Usually an uncontrolled thyroid will cause an increased appetite with weight loss, not a decreased one. Sometimes if cats have concommitant kidney disease, treating the thyroid can cause the kidneys to function less efficiently. It can be a balancing act. I would make sure they run a full blood panel, not just thyroids and go from there. I hope you are able to have some more time with your kitty-baby.
