Going to cheat and post questions about two kids in one thread, if that's okay...

DS is seven weeks, lots of diaper free time, does not like to be in a soiled diaper, but also does not like to be held to pee or poop. He often poops when I put him down. We've been catching on a prefold underneath him, but did anyone have a baby who grew out of this? If nothing else, eventually he will be able to sit on the BBLP by himself, but I would like to be able to hold him over the toilet without protest.

DD is almost three, not even sure if this still counts as ECing, but she's still working on it (EC'd since seven months old). I have considered her a poop grad for about a year, but not at all for pee. She'll go on the potty, but only if I take her, and she won't wait for it and she won't tell me she has to go. She's really outgrown the BBLP, but still wants to use it instead of the big potty. Any suggestions for how I could make the big potty more attractive? She'll go in public restrooms if I sit on it behind her and hold her, but it's a bit crowded with me, DS in a wrap, and then DD on the potty.

Thanks if you've made it this far!

A seat reducer and a special little step-stool for the big potty? My son loved his step-stool and used it long past when he really needed it. Let her come pick it out with you? is she verbal enough to tell you what she doesn't like about the big potty? (I remember well how scary I thought the big potty was!) Is she currently dumping her own little potty contents into the big potty (so, she is at least putting it "where it belongs" even if its w/ the intermediate step of using the small potty?)

A good friend used a small digital watch that beeped once per hour to remind her son to use the toilet a week or 2 before his third birthday b/c he still just peed in his pants if she didn't take him. He only used it for about a week and then was pretty independent w/out the alarm or mom's help (still with fairly frequent "accidents" but NOTHING like before).

And, well, at least your baby isn't pooping on you, and is waiting until you put him down (if you want to look on the bright side...)

Congratulations on the little one!

Some babies do like to go while laying down when they're tiny. My LO did plety of peeing while laying down. I don't remember her pooping that way, but peeing for sure. She grew out of it. A lot of "catches" were when I knew she'd go once I laid her down, after holding her over the potty. Can you try holding him in a different place? Try the sink if you're using the toilet, or vice versa? My dd was ok being held over the sink, but not so much the toilet or a potty on the floor.

Re: the 3-y.o, I don't know! I haven't even gotten to two yet!

thanks for the replies, we keep losing power here with snowstorm and I haven't had a chance to respond. Loved the suggestion to just ask DD what was going on (communication, duh). Turns out she really likes the BBLP because it's the "baby potty" and the one for her little brother. So we'll go with it for now. Really I was just tired of bending down to pick up the BBLP while DS was in a Moby wrap, so I took the suggestion to get DD to dump it herself. She's very into that now.

As for DS, we got the first poop catch today. Yay!
