Co-sleeping without bed rails

Do you? My almost 8 mo old LO now rolls onto her stomach when she sleeps, but the problem is that she, soundlessly and immediately, pushes up onto her hands and knees, and then sits up...then starts to crawl AWAY from me to find an adventure.

We part time sidecar, part time cosleep. We took our bed apart, much to DH's consternation, and now have a low box spring and mattress on the floor. Pillows everywhere to prevent bang ups, etc. But she STILL manages to find the "danger" spots, i.e. the corners of her crib and the spot where my apparently very alluring nightstand butts against our bed (both places she has banged her head pretty good.)

So this situation SORT OF works for us...but now we have some out of town travel planned and I can't obviously take a hotel bed apart...what do you do? Lots of pillows? Some kind of travel bed rail?

We have a Tres Tria pillow and it works really well for travel. It's all we use at home, too.

I would buy bed rails. They take seconds to install and you can take them with you.

Maybe I should also add that her favorite thing to do right now is pull up to stand.

I'm all for co-sleeping and side-carring, but I just don't see how to keep her safe.

can you bring bed rails when you travel on a plane? i.e. do they fold to fit in a suitcase? They seem bulky. I feel like I am just trying to find a way to make our Family Bed into a Family Crib.

We cosleep w/out bedrails for now. Im sure it'll change at some point. But DS sleeps between dh & I (I know, I know, against all recommendations, but it works for us & ds gets to attach to dad since dh is out of the house at work 4 long days a week). So when we travel (which we do frequently - our 9 month old has flown 18,000 miles so far), ds still sleeps between us. In hotels I try to get a king bed. But I'm such a light sleeper, I wake up before ds does. I seem to know when he is about to wake up In 2-3 minutes. Dunno if that helps. Also, I always request a crib in hotels even though I have no intention of using it. It comes in handy sometimes for play & it avoids the weird look from the check in people.

Exactly this.
Besides, if your little one likes to pull up to standing, then it won't be long before she pulls up on the rails and tips right over. She'll get the hang of her boundaries soon enough.
