Oh I can totally relate! Well, welcome back! I have a question, how did you go about taking a break from S101 and then getting back on board? I am not sure what I'm going to do with S101 right now - although the passive income is nice I have had quite a few new opportunities come my way that appear to be a better use of my writing time. However, I don't want to burn bridges because I know that everything can change in an instant in this industry.

When I wanted to take a break, I just emailed my editor, they were very nice and said to email when I ready to join back in. To tell you the truth, the sleep schedules have returned to rocky around here and I never got past the intent to email to rejoin S101. Good thing I haven't emailed them yet since I am struggling to establish the time in front of the computer more than I expected! Anyway, I think if you just keep it short and sweet and tell them that you need to take a break, that hopefully it will be fine! Good luck!

Can Suite101 articles be used to embed backlinks like on other article networks? Does anyone have any experience with that?

MyTwoAs, I've taken a S101 break unintentionally for the past 6 mo or so. I really had intentions of catching up, but got another freelance job (web design) and we're remodeling our kitchen and I just can't juggle it in. I didn't declare my intention to take a break, but at the same time it appears to have gone unnoticed. I got the notice the other day about the demise of the subtitle and the shortening of the lead paragraph, but nobody's said, "you haven't written your 10 articles—you're outta here!" I'm hoping to pick it back up when my freelance web job is done and the kitchen is back in operation.

spunk, you can interlink S101 articles and it is recommended, but there is a link limit on internal links (to other S101 articles) and also a smaller link limit to outside articles. I'm not sure if you're allowed to link to an outside article that you have also written.

I wrote my first Suite101 article - yah! It is a nicely maintained site - I hope I can build some residual income (and back links!) here with my content that I can't really use on my my sites.

I got my first editorial response, and they asked me to "Highlight anchor text and use globe/chain icon to embed links" - what does that mean? I have looked everywhere to figure out what that means and I don't see any help anywhere on how to do that.

Also, I earned one penny so far!!

So $1/month/article is the average so making $150/month would require 150 articles? My one penny took five days to earn, so I am not sure how that will work out

The editor wants you to embed the link - make some of the text blue and link-ey instead of writing out the link with the www and .com. You do this by selecting a few words or phrase to be you anchor text (so instead of "try this technique with the recipe for apple pie at www. whatever .com" you would write "try this techinique on apple pie" then highlight the words "apple pie," click on the icon above the edit box that looks like a little globe with two chain links on it, and this will give you a pop-up box into which you insert the url.
The same icon can be found second to left on the string of edit buttons at MDC on the quick reply box I am now typing in. HTH!

eta - the earnings don`t really go evenly at first, so the five days for one penny is not a cause for concern. there are a few threads on early revenues in the quite forums, and you can read back through the (massive!) suite thread here at MDC (link on the first page of this new thread) to see what the experience of some of the other MDC suite mama`s was like.

The Suite101 news thing, that's so exciting. Examiner.com has that and I notice higher traffic on some of my news-y Eaminer articles, so I can't wait to use it for S101 articles.

Anyone else excited about the Suite101 and Google News accreditation?

My earnings are FINALLY going back up again, I got down to $477 and was freaking out. Admittedly, I haven't written much but STILL. There's a big difference between $984 and $477, know what I mean?

My articles at mnn.com show up in Google News and it is nice because those get top SERP placement if done right. For a setup where you are paid on either PVs or ad revs then that will likely boost your earnings. This is great for S101.

I still haven't decided what I want to do with S101 yet. I am making about $3k/mo with my other writing and only about $250/mo with S101. The residual is nice but I want to make sure my time is well spent. I have to remind myself that it is one post per week - just one post per week. I think I'm burned out on autism again, though.

However, my autism site that I own is picking up traffic and ad click wise and i'm making about what I make from S101 so even though S101 is one post per week, if I take that energy and put on my own site it might pay off. Perhaps I need to look into stepping away from the FW role despite the extra 20% comm.

Hey again guys.

I've been fairly lazy with Suite recently. I keep thinking "It can't be time for my weekly Hair Care article yet, I just wrote one!", then checking and.... oops! So I keep scrabbling to catch up. I really need to make a routine and always write those articles on Monday or something.

Well, my news is that DH quit his job and started working from home, so I need to up my game with freelancing in an attempt to supplement his income while he builds his client base. (His job involves copywriting, and incidentally? It's depressing how much more he's able/willing to charge for copywriting than I get paid for my magazine articles!!)

So I've decided to compose all my article queries in documents in a proper folder, rather than in my Gmail drafts; and have some kind of spreadsheet system to make sure I've submitted every query to all the appropriate magazines, not just one or two.

As far as Suite goes - my New Year's Resolution was to earn $350/month by the end of the year. I'm currently earning about $240, so I have a way to go! A couple of my top-performing articles are getting more PVs than ever - I think because I respond to comments, some of them are up to 90+ comments now! - but of course I don't really know how that impacts revenue. I should definitely work on more holiday articles - could really use a Christmas revenue boost this year!

Does anyone know if I am supposed to follow up when I make corrections recommended by the editor? I had to correct some title cases and did so at least a week ago. I haven't seen any update from the editor. How does this usually work?

Round2, in my experience no you don't need to follow up with the editor. They're so busy that they flag it once and then they're done and expect you to fix it. If it's your first article or in your first ten they might check in with you. After that they just communicate with flags.

I haven't been writing for s101 for awhile, though. Life got in the way. And I only have a few articles to my name, so someone else may be able to give you more in depth info. You can also ask this kinda question on the s101 forums. They're generally very helpful there.

I've been a bit meh about Suite lately. My earnings haven't risen as much as I'd like, but I can't really complain as I haven't been very productive! I struggle to come up with topics for my FW article and don't get much written about other stuff. Still, my income is ticking away, and I guess I can't complain about getting a couple of hundred a month for doing two hours' work!
