Help me start a baby wrap business:D

Hi ladies,

Ok this has been in the works for awhile. And finally I've decided to bend to the will of the people and start making wraps to sell.

I've also been asked to teach how to wrap at a baby class in a couple of weeks, and I'd love to have some ready for then if possible.

So, I have questions! What is the best fabric to use? I used cotton gauze from the fabric store and it's worked great but I'd like to go with something organic to sell. Any suggestions about where to buy or what type of fabric to use? Any ideas on doing something fancy to it to make it more personal? One of my wraps I freehand cut out an elephant of tie dyed fabric and sewed it on the middle with a tight zig zag stitch. Any other ideas?

I want to start small and we'll see from there. Thank you for your help!

Just a note:

I just wanted to clarify that I'm not looking to make this an online business at this point. I have so many women asking me where I got my wrap(I made it) and where they could get one. I've been asked if I sell them and could I please make them one. I pretty much just want to keep it local to my area(Nova Scotia)where there seems to be a market for them.

I'm thinking I might just make it my 'thing' to make them as inexpensive as possible. I'll use simple cotton gauze, possibly with something small embroidered or appliqued on the middle. I know there are so many wraps offered online with fancy fabrics and usually quite expensive. I'd like to make something simple and functional that most everyone can afford. What do you think?

Two words: Liability insurance! Be sure you have it in place before you sell anything. Sorry to be a downer...

Liability insurance....oh boy. That starts complicating things eh? I guess I'd better look into that thanks for the heads up.

Start with your regular insurance agent (whoever you get home owners/renters insurance through). They may very well insure small businesses too.

The elephant applique sounds really cute! I think you have a great idea. When I wore my baby in the wrap (as opposed to the sling) people approached me about it all the time. What's that called, where did you get it, how does it work, etc. You could just be a walking advertisement. And the wrap/sling classes are an awesome idea to help people and sell your wares.

I've called my insurance people and we should find out this week how much I'll be looking at for a year. I'm glad you like my elephant...I'm a little elephant obsessed.

I would like for this to work out, but I'm not very business minded. Thanks for the help
