How much tuna is okay?

So...I LOVE tuna. It's fast, easy, and tastes good. I eat the Albacore kind. Sometimes I worry about the mercury in it. A calculator I found online said I should only eat a 1/4 of a can a week or something. Uhm, I can go through 2 or 3 a week (small cans, not the huge ones)

Not okay?

I think thats way too much. I found this.

What brands should people stay away from?

Based on the results of our testing, consumers should avoid brands of light canned tuna that comes from Latin American countries, especially Ecuador and Mexico because of their astonishingly high average level of mercury.

Our testing showed that on average Asian brands of tuna had the lowest mercury concentrations, especially that which came from Thailand. And the American brands of tuna are also a better choice than Latin American brands, but remember that we also recommend that no matter what brand of tuna you buy or where it comes from, adults should limit their intake of any light canned tuna to no more than 6 ounces, or one can, a week and parents limit children's consumption to 3 ounces, one/half a can, or less a week.
This was on Dr. Oz recently.

I think you also have to be careful about how much seafood you eat a week of species that are known to be high in Mercury. KWIM?

Yeah, I eat only chunk light, one small can a week max since I am bfing. I find canned salmon to be a great replacement or sardines.

I recently tried sardines for the first time, have you ever had them? Very mild, I liked them a LOT more than I expected, my son was eating them straight from the can.

eta: I'm recommending them because they seem to be quite low in mercury and other contaminants. They and canned salmon are my first foray into seafood in years.

I have recently begun eating wild salmon again after 15+ years of strict vegetarianism. I prefer the wild salmon in the pouch, to me it tastes a lot like how I remember tuna tasting. It is from Thailand, is wild caught, and is meant to be low in mercury.
