I was SO thrilled. Cheddar made with just unpasteurized milk and bacterial culture. I couldn't believe my eyes!!! I wanted to buy all of it so they keep stocking it - I hope it doesn't disappear!

I'm in Edmonton, and it was at Save On Foods, do you have them there?

Yes we have Save-on in BC. What brand was it? Do you remember the price? Thanks!

I'll have to look when I am home tonight and post tomorrow (I have no home computer right now) but it was in the organic dairy section right below all those yucky soy cheeses that they also carry.

I just found raw milk cheddar at Trader Joe's, a new item.

I almost never do this, but I'm going to avail myself of TJ's "return it for any reason" policy. It was the nastiest cheese ever. It tasted like a combination of old cardboard and old socks. No cheddar flavor at all!

My husband is painting the house of Save-On's CEO right now. I told him to tell him they need to stock more organic stuff!!

They also carry Kerrygold Dubliner cheese - that's great stuff!!

I snuck on hubby's laptop while he's curling This cheese is from Paradise Island in Nanaimo so I bet you can get it there! I emailed them to ask what the cows eat that they get their raw milk from.

My Save On actually has a LOT of organic stuff - that's why I shop there. They could use more traditional food stuff tho - they only have refined coconut oil, although it is Spectrum brand which is a good one. Tell the CEO to send me some unrefined CO!!!

I buy my coconut oil from iHerb.com .... BEST prices anywhere, and best quality too! I go through the stuff so quick!

Let me know if you want a referral code, you get $5 off your first order. If an order is under $50 and under 3 lbs you do not pay duty and shipping is only $4! I get 32 oz of extra virgin coconut oil for around $15!

Hey I just took a look at the Paradise Island cheese, my Pricemart (Save-On company) carries those too though I've never noticed that they are raw! REALLY??????!!!!!!! I used to buy them all the time, lol. I had no idea they were raw.

I just took a look at the cheese I got from Save-On... it's raw too! I don't know why I never noticed it before, I just assumed a grocery store wouldn't carry it. It says right there on the package "From raw milk"

Ingredients: Organic raw milk, bacterial culture, sea salt, microbial enzyme. The brand name is L' Ancetre, it's from Quebec. Website is www.fromagerieancetre.com

Unpasteurized does not necessarily mean raw. In Britain at least you can get many unpasteurized cheeses but they are from heated milk, although the milk is heated at a lower temperature than it would during the pasteurization process.

This was explained to me by a small cheese shop owner at the beautiful Lake District area in Lancanshire. I noticed that all his hand-made sheep's milk cheeses were labeled as unpasteurized so I asked him about this. He even said that sometimes the temperature is only just a few degrees less that what is required during the pasteurization process.

But I still prefer unpasteurized cheeses to the regular pasteurized ones when I'm in Britain even if this means that they are only slightly healthier

I was going to say the very same thing.

Well, that's OK, I hope they reply to my email about where they get their milk. I had some last night and it's totally yummy too! My milk lady makes raw cheese but I've never asked her if she'd sell me any - we got a whole bunch as gifts at Christmas and it was all gone in like 3 days.

Actually, it says right on the package of the cheese I got from Save-On "from RAW milk" and unpasteurized.

Yes, but that doesn't mean the milk wasn't heated during the manufacturing process. Lots of so-called raw cheese really isn't because the milk is heated to make it. For example, Organic Valley raw cheese, which still claims it is raw cheese, because the manufacturing process began with raw milk.

From what I read on the website, it looks pretty legit to me.

It may well be, then you have made a lucky find. But IME, you have to ask the manufacturer to clarify it really is raw. I buy raw milk cheese from individual small farms which I know do not heat the milk in the process of making the cheese.
