We eat a traditional foods diet and have for many years as I was primarily raised on this type of diet even though we didn't have a name for it. However, once TTC our first child I was dx'd with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I am now TTC #2 with the help of a fertility specialist but also researching food that help with fertility and pregnancy. I am pretty close to the Weston Price diet for pregnancy but I do not like fish like tuna, salmon, roe, etc at all. I've tried to eat it, I've tried many, many different recipes and no I just cannot stand the taste of fish. I am taking Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil (Dr actually prescribed it to me years ago if you can believe that). My question is am I getting what I need from the Cod Liver Oil alone? I do eat wild caught shrimp from the Gulf (we live in the deep south) & crab when it is in season but this is more like a bi-monthly thing. I just want to make sure I am getting enough Omega 3 and I'm afraid I am not.

I'm not sure about EVERYTHING that is in fish, however if you eat plenty of wild shrimp, and crab in season, and fish oil, and sea vegetables, that's probably good. In terms of omega-3s, if you are eating pastured eggs and pastured/grass-fed meat, there is a good amount in there too.
Shrimps are super healthy, so if you can afford it, and don't like fish, I'd ramp up your shrimp eating. (admittedly, even though I recommend this, we only eat fish about 2x a month, because of cost. ok, and preference, because I suppose we could afford canned sardines weekly, we just don't like them THAT much. we have a few dishes we like them in a lot though.)
In terms of getting the same stuff that is in fish in clo, I'm not sure that that is the case, however it is a powerful supplement.

Thank you for the reply. I will amp up our Shrimp intake to 2x week. We actually love it and can get it fresh or either frozen within days of being caught. Crab will still have to be a splurge though because price vs the amount of food is high. When you say sea vegetables what exactly are you referring to? I've tried seaweed (we lived in Korea for 2 years) but it tastes like raw fish to me. Can I add a Kelp supplement? Are there others? We do eat a lot of eggs as we raise our own pastured chickens. We also do eat primarily grass fed beef from my father's farm. They do get grain and some corn the last month because I cannot talk him into no corn at all. We will have our own soon plus a milk cow because we cannot get raw milk here.

what type of sea vegetables (aka sea weeds) did you try? some are totally manageable, and some are totally ukk.
I love that japanese seaweed salad that many sushi restaurants serve, though I don't know what it is or what's in it or how to make it.
I regularly use kombu, and it's awesome. I stick a peice in every single pot of beans I make, and it imparts many of its wonderful nutrition to the beans, without affecting their taste.
my DP put hajiki (soaked a bit) in a stir fry the other day, about 1/4 c.(dry, more once it was soaked) in the whole stir fry. it was gross just soaked, but once he put it in the stir-fry, it wasn't noticebly, and it's super nutrient packed.
I find nori really gross, and not a huge fan of wakame in most situations, though a friend put a little unsoaked wakame (sort of crumbled I think) into a raw kale salad/coleslaw with a garlic/lemon/brazil nut dressing that was AMAZING.
So basically, some seaweed is completely disguiseable even for those of us who hate seaweed. It's taste just isn't as strong as fish, you know?

There is a smoked trout pate that I can find at whole foods sometimes that I don't mind. The ingredients are similar. I think I'll try to find some smoked trout on localharvest.org and make my own with homemade mayo.
As far as the seaweed, I'm not sure what all I tried but living in Asia & traveling through Asia we tried many, many dishes that included seaweed but none of it was appealing. I'll have a look around next time we are in the city to see what I can find and use them in beans etc as you mentioned. I really apprecaite all the help.
Where do you get your sea weeds?

Cod liver oil is FABULOUS, and you should definitely keep taking it, but it's not a source of Omega 3's. Pastured meats have omega 3's (as someone mentioned above), but if you want a supplement you can take fish oil capsules in addition to your CLO. They're totally different things! HTH.
