Mattress on Floor, room design (X-posted in Decluttering, Organizing, & Simplifying)

Not sure where this would go.

We're moving in a couple of months and we're thinking of getting rid of our box springs and frame before the move and just having our mattress on the floor because we sleep with our 22 month old and in the summer, we'll have a newborn.

I'm curious- if you have a similar set-up, what does it look like? Can it look nice or will it always look like you're living in a dorm? If anyone has pictures of a nice-looking room with a mattress on the floor, I'd be interested.

I'm interested in this too ... we have our box spring stored in the garage, and just the mattress on an ikea frame on the lowest setting, which is only about four inches off the floor. It looks good. We tried the mattress on the floor and i did not like the way it looked. Not at all. I'd love to see pics of folks who made it look decent.

We have the mattresses on the floor in both our master bedroom and guest room. We have it this way in both b/c I am paranoid about DD learning to climb onto the bed or under the bed and hurting herself. I will put them back on the frames once she is old enough that she knows how to climb up/down safely.

It doesn't look spectacular, but we still have the bed skirts on so it doesn't look too bad either. We also have the beds up against the wall so it eliminates two possible sides to fall/roll off of. I may be able to post some pics tonight or sometime this weekend.

I laughed when I read this - DH and I have our bed on the floor. But technically, we live in a dorm...hahah! So yes it looks like one. Ours is a bad example - a queen shoved into the far corner of the room, with a bottom sheet and a pile of pillows and about 4 big blankets (DH hogs them so I use my own - we live in Utah, winter is chilly!).

Maybe you could search for Japanese style bedrooms? Lots of Japanese bedrooms use either very low to the floor frames or the actual mattresses that go on the floor and are stored during the day. I'm looking into those for when we are through with university - seems like so much hassle could be avoided, since we are planning to cosleep when our children come, and we don't want a large living space anyway.

Ha! Dorm look here too. I make myself feel better by calling it the simplified look

We have a queen box spring and mattress on the floor up against the wall. It's under our window, which has nice wooden shutters so it makes me feel like there's a headboard or something to pizazz it up. When we had two littles sleeping with us, there was a twin box spring and mattress pushed up to ours, it worked great, which outweighed the weird look of the arrangement.
