We have a crib thats works great. Its right next to our bed and our DD generally naps in there and spends the first part of the night in there (after falling asleep in our arms in bed) and then joins us after waking up. She's fairly independent and sometimes prefers to be in the crib. It works out well, as she gets the security of bedsharing when she wants to, but gets her own space when she wants as well. And I get a little free time while she naps, without too much anxiety.
