3mo. old been asleep for 6 hours

not entirely sure if this normal or even OK. i know when he was a newborn i was told to wake him at least every 2/3 hours to feed. this is the first time he has slept this long. i know over the past 4 weeks it has been 10/15 minute naps and then being wide awake as if he had a full nights rest. he normally sleeps around 4/5 hours during the night maximum. we were all sick a few weeks back and been fighting a pretty bad stuffed up nose, so... maybe that has something to do with it.

anyway. should i just let him sleep or wake him up? he seems fine... though. don't know why i'm worrying.

never wake a sleeping baby!

seriously, though, at 3 months, it's okay. My first baby was sleeping through the night (7-8 hr stretches) by 10 weeks. My youngest is now almost 3 and doesn't sleep through the night sometimes, just for comparison .

Unless there were other issues, like really slow weight gain, I don't see any reason to wake up a sleeping baby. I do remember freaking out a bit myself when my LO's would sleep for longer than usual stretches - so, so much for me enjoying it and sleeping myself, b/c I would be checking on them frequently (plus I would get engorged).

At 3m it is ok to let him sleep.

Let him sleep!

let him sleep (and take a nap while you can)

I'm a little jealous- I wish my 3mo old sleep that long of a stretch! DS1 was sleeping through the night at 3mo. DS2 is nowhere near that.

Let him sleep. My DD was sleeping for 6 hour stretches at 4 weeks (it's backtracked a bit, but not much). As long as the baby is getting enough wet diapers, you're fine.

I'll chime in with the others- let him sleep! My 8 week old has always been a champion of a sleeper, and my ped agrees- if they're eating and gaining and developing well, let them sleep!

why aren't you sleeping too?!?

Sleep! My ped gave us the go ahead to let DS sleep as long as he wanted when we made his birth weight back by 2 weeks after a 11% loss in the first 5 days. He would sleep 4-5 hours for his nighttime sleep then, then upped that to 5-6 hours at 6.5 weeks, and has contunued that with a week of 3 7-8 hour sleeps in a row. (That was heaven! Too bad it didn't last and he's now a little fussier about staying asleep when we first put him down.) As long as he's gaining weight and wetting diapers like crazy, I don't worry. He seems able to wake himself up before he's too terribly hungry.

The first time DS slept 6 hours, my mom was stay with us and she came to check on us twice because she didn't believe a newborn could possibly sleep that long.

My 3.5mo slept 9 hours straight last night and woke up happy. His cheeks are still chunky as ever! Let him sleep!!!

I was told to wake my baby up every 2or 3 hours at the hospital, too. I filed that under "crazy advice given by people who think new mothers don't deserve to sleep." If the baby is gaining weight and filling plenty of diapers let them snooze.

My lo is 3 weeks old and she has (since we left the Hospital where they don't believe in completing sleep cycles) slept for 6 hour stretches every night and when she wakes up she nurses from both sides and drifts back off for another 3 or 4 hour stretch. When she stopped doing it for a few nights, I started swaddling her and we are back to the six hour sleeps. I am sure this is why she is such a happy chilled out baby. Sleep makes everyone in the house cheerier.

Let the baby sleep. He will probably wake up happier and calmer, and you no doubt will be happier and calmer, too.

Hope this is just the start of long sleeping stretches.

Congratulations, First time mommy!!! I can't belive your LO is 3 months already! I agree-- let him sleep. I think the recommendation for waking after 3 hours is just until they hit their birthweight... And even then-- I think the majority of healthy babies won't sleep through their hunger those first few days.

Let him sleep. My DS sleeps all night from 7-5-ish, with a couple sleepy nursings in the night.

I'm like drummer's wife, my 3 y/o rarely STTN, but my son pretty much has since he was born.

Wow! You are blessed. DD is 7mo and still won't sleep over 4.5/5 hours.

I tried waking my babe up every 2-3 hrs. One night when I woke him up he got so incredibly mad I spent the next 1/2 hr calming him down, and in the end he didn't nurse! He's now 4months and 20lbs Let him sleep! Enjoy!
