Rapid weight gain?

I'm really trying to keep the weight gain to a 25-30 lb range this time around. I gained 40 with my DS and I had a hard time shedding it. Took 2 years.

My first trimester I gained a whole 3 lbs. Figured that was pretty good seeing as how last pregnancy I gained 10.

Then over the course of a month I gained 5 lbs and I swear just this WEEK I gained 5.

Anyone else gain weight rapidly? Does it slow down???? I gained 25 lbs during my 2nd trimester during my last pregnancy which freaked me out. Don't want to do that again.

And I'm not eating junk all day long! I have 3 home cooked organic meals a day and a snack of a big bowl of fresh fruit which usually fills me up and I eat a small dinner of salad and a taste of whatever I made for DS and DH. I even gave up my decaf lattes to heelp keep unnecessary calories away.

I have been working very hard this pregnancy to keep my weight gain under control, especially since I started out 8 lbs higher than my normal weight. By 32 weeks I had gained 16, now at 33 weeks it's 21!! I have been eating more, unfortunately, more than I need and that is why I've gained. Overeating is something I struggle with, and I gain so easily. It's hard!

If nothing has changed in your diet, it could be water weight. Are you swollen at all?

In some ways I believe everyone has a certain amount of weight they gain while pregnant...some more than others. I am a petite person, I am 5 feet tall and was 96 pounds when I got pregnant with my first baby, I gained 50 pound. I ate much healthier, went to the gym and was running about after a 2 year old during my 2nd pregnancy and I STILL gained 50 pounds. With my 3rd pregnancy, I gained 40, I ate about the same as when I was preggo with #2 and exercised about the same (I wonder if because she was a girl my weight gain was different???). I'm on #4 right now and am about the same weight now as I was when i was this far along with my daughter (this is another girl) My mother also gained quite a bit when pregnant and my 2 sisters who have had kids so far both gained around 50 pounds with each pregnancy (and they are both VERY healthy eaters). We are all petite women and usually don't have a problem with weight...that is why I really think some women are destined to gain more than others.....heredity! (But I tell myself that so i don't get upset about my HUGE weight gain )

My weight has been all over the place this pregnancy. I'll go weeks without gaining anything, and then all of a sudden gain 3-5 pounds in 1 week. I honestly feel like it's out of my control, because the week I spent with my family over the holidays eating terribly (LOTS of cookies everyday, in addition to big meals) I didn't gain a thing...then I came back and resumed my modest diet and gained 3 pounds the following week.

Once I reached the third trimester I finally settled into the "1 lb a week" rule. I was hoping to only gain 25lbs this pregnancy, but given that I've hit that at almost 32 weeks, I'm clearly going to be at the upper end of "normal" weight gain by the end of this pregnancy unless I starve myself (which definitely is NOT going to happen).

Your sudden gain is probably just water weight, or it's just the way your body prepares for pregnancy. Just keep making healthy(ish) choices and trying to get a bit of exercise when you have the energy, and try not to stress too much about the numbers.

YEs, suddenly I feel like I'll be gaining 40 lbs again whether I want to or not.

But then I began to wonder maybe I am eating more than usual. (but like the other poster said over the holidays during my 1st tri I couldn't get anything down other than pie, cookies, and anything else sweet and yet didn't gain a pound)

Now I'm eating balanced again and the weight is just jumping on me.

For instance today I had a Sprouted grain bagel with organic bluberry preserves and a glass of kefir and tea for breakfast. I had a bowl of fresh fruit(pineapple, kiwi, mano) for lunch along with a bowl of the pasta I made my son. (fresh tomatoes with herbs, grass fed beef, onion, organic pasta)

Dinner will be salad- romaine with red peppers and goat cheese and probably soup (beef with vegggies) because I made it three days ago and I want it finished up before it spoils.

So not exactly big macs and ecliars. But I swear I can FEEL myself getting bigger. Sigh.

And it's all in the thighs, hips, and butt. I look all lumpy. Oh well. Guess I'll never be one of those Heidi Klum preggos who just look like they have a tummy while the rest of them stays perfect. lol

I always gain at least a lb a week, when you average it all out...although I go over and have big babies so more than once it has definitely been over 50 lbs. But I am slender to begin with, no necessarily underweight but when I nurse I tend to become underweight. So I feel that my body does exactly what it needs to. The only time I have gained more than I should was with pg #2, and that was due to extreme family stress and the resultent frequent eating out.

The 2nd tri is supposed to have the most rapid weight gain. Mine tends to be throughout my pg, but everyone is different. Quite frankly, I decline ALL weight checks in office because it causes me to stress and not eat healthy (afraid to eat the week before, stress eating afterward). I gain LESS by not getting weight checks and I check it at home if I feel like it.
