so i admit to having a bit of a sweet tooth & i keep some sweets hidden away for snacking on after ds goes to sleep. so, just now while ds was napping i had a little chocolate & when he woke up he goes "what's mommy eating? i smell chocolate" LOL! the only times ds has had sweets are holidays, b-day parties, etc., but NEVER just for no reason at home. he's 2.5 and i could count on both hands the # of times he's had treats which makes it even more funny that he'd remember the smell of chocolate!!!

Based on my DD's vocabulary, you'd think we only feed her junk food. She says "mint" "gum" "cookie" "chocolate" "chips" "popcorn" etc... the only healthy food she has bothered to learn to say is "apple." We don't give her mints or cookies often and she's only had gum once (when she grabbed it off the counter while I was putting away groceries), but those are the words she picked up. I guess because she feels more motivated to ask for those than to ask for more carrots? lol. She doesn't know how to ask for any of the foods I regularly feed her (other than apples) but she knows how to ask for all the things I only give her occasionally as a special treat.

My dd is 16 now but when she was less than 2 (I know because she didn't have a brother
) we had the following discussion when I climbed into bed next to her.
K - "mommy have you been eating chocolate?"
Me - "oh no honey" (we were dirt poor and it was a huge treat)
K - "then why do I smell chocolate?"
DH - "busted!"

OMG, I had the same thing happen. Not sure how old DS was...2 ish, I guess? We had just left Ikea, where DH had bought a chocolate bar at the cash register. DH and I were sneaking bites of it in the front seat of the car, when DS pipes up "Smell somefin!"
"Hmm, must be from the restaurant over there, hon."
"Smell SOMEFIN! Smell CHOCO!"
BUSTED!

Lol, the same exact thing happened to me when DS1 was about the same age as your son! I snuck some chocolate while he was in the playroom and then he came over and smelled my breath and said, "you ate chocolate." I denied it and he gave me a sideways look, like he didn't know what to think, lol.

LOL, I guess we've all been busted a time or two.
A couple of years ago I splurged on a whole case of Green & Blacks chocolate bars and stashed them away in a box under my sewing table. My little bad day survival kit, LOL. Well, a few weeks later I was washing dishes when DS (age 2 or 3 at the time) came running into the kitchen saying, "Mama! Mama! You don't believe what I FOUND!" So I had to share my stash, or at least a bit of it. DH said it served me right for hoarding, LOL.

this is totally me! i actually unwrap said item after the kids are buckled in, before i get in so dd1 doesn't hear the wrapper and ask for a treat! at first, keeping her ERF was working but now she's figured out how to differentiate sounds!

ROFLOL! DH and I were fixing dinner one night and had told the kids no treats (it was seriously almost dinner time). DH and I hadn't eaten lunch and we had some candy from Christmas I think it was. So the kids are in the living room, we're in the kitchen sneaking chocolate until dinner. DS is 7.
"What are you guys eating" from the living room.
"Uh nothing honey"
"Yes you are. I hear the paper crinkling" as he walks into the kitchen and we both quickly stuff the last of it in our mouths and hide the evidence. He goes up and sticks his face right in DH's.
"AND I smell CHOCOLATE!"
Totally and completely busted!
