I'm tired of being WET!

Let me begin by saying that I'm so aware of how blessed I am to have such a problem, but, ladies, it's getting old!

V is 8 weeks old, nursing well, and my supply is settling down somewhat. I'm a genetic oversupplier/forceful letdowner (my mom was famous for spraying across the room, and my sister had the same issues, and here I am!) and I'm just done being soaked all day and night.

I quit using disposable pads, as it's just a waste of money, and usually end up folding a pair of tall athletic socks and using those at night. I'd love to have just a few hours of going braless again; I was a 36 A pre-pregnancy, and am now a good 38 C.

Please tell me there's hope for dryness? (Of course, mom and sis don't recall when or if they were able to stop leaking like a Dutch dam.) My nipples are irritated due to the constant moisture, and it's nearly impossible to air them out, as I just keep on leaking. My supply isn't an issue anymore, it's just my inability to keep said supply inside of me!

Thanks.

Oh man, I remember that! At 8 weeks I was still leaking ALL the time too, I honestly think I didn't stop leaking until 6-8months. Not that it was as bad as the first 12 weeks or so but I think it was at around 6 months (maybe even a little later) that I could nurse on one side and not be assured that I would start spraying out the other. I don't have any good tips either, just commiseration. I remember having drops on the hardwood floor wherever I went...

Oh hey there! I'm right with you on that one! Right there! My left boob is worse than my right at the moment... *sigh* - one day, we will be able to walk about braless again - but, it might not be for a while. I have thought of duct tape but....

Yeah...

Yeah, I leaked incessantly for the first 6 months of dd's life. And I went from a 36C to a 40G (a 38F 2 years later, still nursing).

I tried every kind of nursing pad in existence - cotton, silk, wool, 2ply, 4ply, doubled and tripled up. I ended up just stuffing a tank top with prefolds when I was at home and using disposable (lansinoh) pads when I had to be seen in public. I also slept on a tow with a stack of prefolds to switch throughout the night as dd nursed or my boobs just decided to aim for the ceiling fan.

I was the same way with ds 1. I think it was around 6-8 months when I stopped using breast pads. I don't remember exactly how long before I stopped getting soaked at night. I resorted to using disposable pads because I'd shoot right through everything else. Although backing cloth pads with a microfleece liner kept my clothes a bit more dry.

I don't know if it is this way for everyone, but my supply and let down are so much more contained with this second baby. So maybe there is hope for future breastfeeding. But I defiinitely commiserate with what your dealing with now.

Had major leaking too - for me, I'd agree it seemed to work itself away somewhere around 5-8 months.

I did get myself some lilypadz, which are weird, but helped with a lot of the leaking (esp. at night when I didn't want to have to wear a bra stuffed with pads that would just get all soaked and I'd have to wash again - I hated having to constantly wash my nursing bras daily).

I know it gets better, and it happened quicker the second time around for me than it did the first. I think I had my boobs trained, lol! I stopped wearing pads/bra around 3 months the second time around, I think it was more like 6-8 months the first time around. It sucks, but it does get better!

HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHhahahha Well it's more accurate anyway!

I remember going to my husbands work party when my ds was 3 months old-ish. His boss is very pro-bf and his own children CLW. So anyway, ds wanted to nurse and I got out my handy dandy nursing cover. His boss was like, "please don't feel like you have to use that! Just so you know you have the right to bf anywhere..." and was being all supportive and sweet.

What he didn't realize is that if I hadn't used the cover he would have been sprayed in the face with breast milk hahah.

There actually was a time at a basketball game that i was watching and sitting on the bleachers and my ds pulled off for a second (i think that darn loud buzzer sound went off) and I squired the person in front of me in the back of the head! I felt sooooo bad. They didnt' notice though and I didn't say anything

LOLOLOL!

I'm SO tempted to try to write my name in the snow, but I think the neighbors are already certain that we're the founding members of the Tin Foil Hat Society. I mean, who WEARS a baby on walks?!

I've been doing the prefold thing too. Except I have been using the cheap gerber ones that we use as burp clothes and they are not absorbent enough! this AM I woke up after sleeping on my 'full' side (I've started block feeding) and I had soaked through a folded gerber prefold, my shirt and onto the bed. Of course I had rolled off the towel I normally sleep on to nurse DD on the other side.. I could have wrung out the prefold! It was that wet. I do find that sleeping with a prefold instead of nursing pads has helped my nipple soreness...

I think tonight I am going to break out the actual diapering prefolds in a larger size than DD uses now. They should be more absorbent.

I seem to recall there are hard shells you can put inside your bra to catch the running milk, I don't remember what they're called though. It will help with the constant moisture.

I will urge you though to catch the excess from the "spare" breast whenever possible and freeze it. You can combine it with what you can pump off and freeze it all together. Even if you don't need it, that extra milk could really help a mama with low supply or an adoptive mama out via donation.
