?'s for moms who have potty trained boys

My ds is almost 19 mos. old and is showing a real interest in potty training.....Can you teach a boy to pee standing up from the get go? (Let me explain) My ds has a pretty thick fat pad still plus what my ped. diagnosed as a webbed penis at 6 mos. old.....So when I sit him on the potty (the actual toilet, haven't had a chance to get the potty chair down from the attic) his penis totally (and I do mean completely) "disappears". Meaning if he were to pee it would just go straight up or straight out. Is this something that happens with boys anyways?? Do I need to go ahead and consider the surgery that my ped. recommended?? I am also going to post this in the cir. forum. But his penis is normal size the ped. even verified that but you have to depress the fat pad to expose all of it. I am just a little nervous we might have problems getting him potty trained. I feel so bad for him.

Both my boys stood from the get go. They were just over two and did fine.

My 3rd son peed standing from the start he was about 2 1/2 when he potty trained. This may sound silly but Peter Potty was a REAL help. It was worth every penny ( think it was about $32 when I bought it) http://www.peterpotty.com/products.php It was SO SO easy for Nathan to just drop his pants and point it is adjustable for smaller guys ( 2 and under)

My DS2 had a really thick fat pad and what I now think was buried penis till he was almost 3. it resolved itself
