Hey, soapers...

I make my own soap and grate it up to make laundry soap (add borax and washing soda) and dish soap (add hot water and mix 'til i drop), and i'm out of the basics--coconut, palm...i have a little olive, but i'd rather use it for cooking.

So my question is, can you make soap out of any of the following:
Shea Butter
Sweet almond oil
Hazelnut oil
Jojoba oil
Cocoa butter
Beeswax

(I used to make all kinds of bath products before i had kids, so that's why i have this stuff on hand.)

I really don't care about the quality of the soap, only that it IS soap and becomes hard enough to grate.
Thanks!

What your doing is quite innovative I must say. Keep it up.

I think you should use some of the olive. Even with that, you're going to have pretty soft soap, I think.

NO WAY would I waste lovely shea butter on laundry soap! But you could probably find a recipe for the other ingredients. Check out thedishforum.com -- you'll need to register, but there is a ton of info there.

The shea butter is old--i was making this stuff several years ago, so i don't feel bad "misusing" it. Tho i may save it and whip it for lotion....

Thanks for the link!

Hey there..I'm a soaper too

I am thinking that there's alot of soft oils soo either you'd wait forever for trace to happen..or it'd take forever to cure..plus I would think even after it's cured the actual soap would be slick and not good for laundering..

Good luck!!

if i were you i would stick to just coconut and palm...there really is no need to make laundry soap with such nice oils...coconnut and palm are the best cleansing oils there are. the other oils you mention are better for skin.
