My adventures in food allergies. *update* - Page 2

that could be us!

Sandrine, that pic of your DD could be my baby! I have been working with her for 4 mos (she is 23 mos). Thanksgiving she had a viral gastroenteritis, and right after developed her first eczema patches. I first thought it was fungal, and treated it as such, but soon realized as it spread it was eczema. My DH and I both have sensitive skin and I have terrible bowel issues with wheat, and over the past months I have isolated it to wheat for her. Not sure if it is gluten or just wheat yet, have only been wheat free for 2 days, but the rash is all but gone!
I am going wheat free for 2 weeks, but keeping in other grains to see how she does. If no relief, then will go gluten free. I will do an allergy panel with her in May (want her immune system to be a bit older) but all roads have led to wheat.
I am so frustrated by people telling me "are you SURE it's wheat, so few are really allergic to wheat!", or "that she will grow out of it" !!!
She is suffering NOW and I want to do all I can to help her. My ped is behind me, but also a bit skeptical about celiac.
So, was really glad to see your pic and post, and know others are going through this too.
Thanks!

Update on dd3:

She's doing great. Her attitude is so positive and she takes whatever I tell her that is safe. She also won't touch any food that she thinks is bad for her, that could "hurt her belly"

Tonight, she told dh that he shouldn't drink cow's milk because it could hurt him. He wasn't impress with me. lol

I should have updated last wk but it's been super crazy busy here.

We saw the naturopath last wk. We are still seeing great signs of improvements. Her cradle cap is almost gone. There is only a tiny bit of it left on one side of her head. Her skin is also less dry, looking good. Her belly has shrunk some more. Her shirts aren't too short anymore. She still has a great attitude.

I need to try and find a shirt that should probably fit her still but would be too short in the arms but not the lengh. I have a pic of her from last yr and you can see how swollen she was and how short that shirt was but it should have fit her well and did but only at the arm and not on her belly.

Well, she`s reacting to tomatoes.

About 4wks or so, she would get red cheeks while eating hm spag sauce and with store bought sauce. So I haven't given her any since. Today, we went to eh gorcery store and she really wanted a fresh tomato. It look good and I told her that tomato in spag sauce was causing her red cheek and were we really willing to try? She said yes. So we bought only one. She had 1/4 of one aka 3 slices and after about 10min, she had a pee accident. She never has accidence like that only at night when she's too tired to think clearly and she didn't go right before bedtime. It's a weird symptom but I can't see anything else that could have cause her to have an accident like that. I also have read on mdc that this could be a symptom for some kids. So no more tomatoes for her. Poor thing, she can't have ketchup anymore.

My second daughter cannot have tomatoes either. She lost those first, and then potatoes and peppers. It's no fun, but def. workable. We eat a lot of salsa around here, and it's been hard to figure out a "sauce" for her--she can't do sals/histamines, so avocados are out too. Luckily, she doesn't seem to mind since there are things her older sister can't have that she can.
Bedwetting is a sypmtom around here for sure. If you're not sure, you can try again in a couple of weeks.

My youngest can't have tomatoes. It is a bit of a pain but workable.

When the rest of the family has tomato sauce, I make him an alfredo type sauce with nutritional yeast, oil, garlic, salt and a bit of rice milk.

We use salsa verde from TJs for salsa.

I have my own BBQ sauce I've made in bulk and serve to him.

We use roasted red peppers sometimes when tomatoes are preferred.

We only recently weaned so for 3 years I followed this for myself.

Let us know of specific tomato food problems and we will try to help.

For us, I believe that tomatoes are a chemical issue. I believe we are to the point that he can have small amounts of fresh tomatoes, so it is doable. gl

THanks. M2S. What did you replace ketchup with??? I think that will be the biggest change for her.

DS never had ketchup. He was too young to care when we pulled tomatoes. We offer mustard to him. We call it Max's ketchup.

There are a couple of options though. Banana ketchup exists as well as plum ketchup. I looked recipes and never bothered.

Also grape and cranberry ketchups, I believe.

So this morning, I went to the naturopath for me as I find that I have some probs but that some direction or someone with more knowledge could help me be on the right path. I`m to do a food diary for the next wk and she will think of what vits/minerals that I can take instead of my list of vits/minerals. Hoping to have less pills to take, yk. She's thinking that with my symptoms that I could probably be dealing with pcos or thyroid prob. She thinks too that I may react to wheat and dairy but depending on the food diary, I'm not stopping yet from eating them. I mostly eat like dd3 but have been cheating and eating dairy and wheat this past wk or so.

She also know cell salts(I've been reading that thread), although she calls them tissue salts. She wants to see dd1 before she give me any for her. dd1's front adult teeth are taking forever to come out. As I read that thread, I thought that if it can help a teething baby, i'm sure it can help with a child who's adult teeth are probably having a hard time coming out too.

She'll see my dd2 also as she suffers from seasonal allergies and we are almost at that point in the season where she will have the sniffles and running nose. I'm hoping that she can get some relief.

So next appt, for all of us is may 3th except for dd3. Her appt is two wks later.

update on dd3:

She's doing fine. We found a restaurant that is not too bad with allergies and does have gf pasta. I did hear that they cook it in gluten water but we ask for them to make sure that it was in fresh water and to not mix it with the other water.

I think she's getting bored with our rotation diet. Maybe I need to change it or find new recipes or something.
