every morning the same again. .

I could use a little help trying to solve our morning 'routine' mystery.

DS eats and sleep pretty much like clockwork each night (he goes to bed at 11pm after feeding, then BFs at 1:30, 4, 6ish). We are exclusively BFing him and he is 8 weeks old (tomorrow). After each night feeding he usually falls asleep on the boob so I don't burb him.

So- Every morning at 7am on the dot, DS wakes up, feeds then its as if a switch flips, he starts to cry, nothing resolves it, I burp him, check his diaper, try to offer him the boob- then about 30 mins after feeding he projectile spits up 1-2 times.. then goes back to sleep for a few hours.

Suggestions on why/how to prevent the projectile spit up cycle?

Hrmmm. Well you could definitely try burping him after the night feedings. It may suck but it might be worth it to see if that does stop the cycle. At least then you'd have your answer.... I used to lay ds asleep across my belly after night feedings when we were all still in bed and burp him, then I could lay him back down, nurse him for a second and he'd be back to sleep (if he had woken at all).

is he a spitty/gassy baby or is this the only time he spits up? if this happens throughout the day as well then I would think about food allergies and other things..

he does have extremely gassy days but most of the time he's fine. .

Have you tried burping him at least just when he wakes up before he spits up? That might help. When DD was about that age, I had over supply issues, and if I gave her the second boob in too close succession after the first boob, she'd make a big spit up. This happened most often when she wouldn't fall asleep nursing right away, so I would try to give her the other boob to get her to sleep. One of my friends told me that sometimes little babies have to learn not to eat too much. I think sometimes, the milk just kept coming, and my poor babe didn't know what to do with it, so she just kept swallowing, but it was too much for her tiny stomach.

ds projectile vomited about 3x a week until I cut out dairy (for other reasons) and got my overactive letdown under control. I don't know if that's what is going on with you but I figured I'd put it out there.

thats possible, I have a really bad letdown and my boobs can be like a garden house on high.

try spraying into a towel at let down. my letdown was like a firehose for the first three months. I also block fed to get the over supply under control and make sure ds was getting a balance of foremilk and hindmilk.

kellymom.com has info on over active letdown

texaspeach- thanks for the tip! I started to do that recently after reading about it somewhere on the net.. hoping the garden hose effect eventually goes away, I am sick of soaking through my shirts and using boxes of breast pads already
