Medicaid eligibility question...

I know that the state considers household income when figuring out food stamp benefits, but what about Medicaid/Healthy Kids? My BF and I are moving in together this summer and I am curious as to how this will change things; we won't qualify for FS anymore but DD has no other health insurance.

Anyone?

Is your boyfriend the father of your dd?

I know that in Kentucky they do not consider my dp's income for ds's medicaid, because dp is not ds's bio-dad and we aren't married. When we do get married then they will consider dp's income, which means ds will lose his medicaid at that time.

No, he is not. DD's father lives out of state and doesn't carry insurance on her. I have a recertification appointment before we move in anyhow, I can check then. Thanks!

It must depend on the state. Where I live everyone who lives in the domicile's income is counted, if they contribute to the household.

Yes, and I bet it even depends on the worker you get.

I work for Social Services in the county I live in in NYS, and we consider all household income, earned and unearned, of everyone on the case for both Medicaid and Food Stamps. Same for Family Healh Plus.

Notice I said for everyone on the case. Your BF might have to open his own separate Medicaid case (or whatever medical coverage he qualifies for), but it's really situational.

But yes, for NYS medicaid (and Family Health Plus), all household income is considered.

Not sure what state you're in, but I hope this helped!

My caseworker's supervisor called be back yesterday and said that DD's Medicaid will be fine. They use the household income for food stamps, since the entire household benefits from them, but for Medicaid they would just use mine.

Thank you though!
