Hi - you are not insane, however with a 15 month old to be quite honest it's not going to be as easy as it would be with a younger baby - I feel I have to be honest here. I would try expressing/pumping with a good hospital grade pump to start with, and then see how your little one feels about coming back to the breast, it has to be something that you are both happy with. Good luck.

I've always heard if the baby is under 6 months, than relactating is usually successful. I haven't heard much research on older babies, but thats probably just because it hasn't been done (the research, not the relactating). I know when my sister was 18ish months, she'd been done nursing for several months. My family went on vacation and on the flight she asked to nurse, nursed through the whole vacation and built a supply back up for my mom, even though she'd been dried up. So I know it's possible, of course as soon as vacation was over and my sister was no longer stressed, she no longer wanted to nurse and my mom had this huge supply again!

I'd suggest pumping and getting her to attempt breastfeeding as often as possible to reistablish the supply.

The first thing you're going to need is a hospital grade pump. And then you're going to need to commit to probably 2 days of pumping every 2 hours. Set a timer. My babe was only about 2 mos when I relactated, so it only took me one day of every 2 hours, but at 15 mos, it'll probably take a bit longer.

You may also need to look into Domperidone and/or other galactagogues.
