When can I give my baby yogurt?

I have a 6.5month old DD...she LOVES to eat...we EB until 5.5 months and then we started giving her homemade baby purees, all made with lots of breastmilk. She still nurses 5-6times/day and she eats breast-milk based "solids" 3-4 times/day. I'm curious when I can give her plain, organic yogurt. I was thinking the cultures might help her digestion. I eat plain yogurt everyday and would like to give her some since she always wants what I eat. We give her new foods every couple of days and I make her lots of "blends" which she also enjoys...really she'll eat anything. We have no allergies in our family and she's hasn't had any bad reactions..so what are your toughts about yogurt?

I started giving DD plain organic whole milk yogurt at 8 months. Now she gets it almost every day, a scoop mixed with fruit for breakfast. 8 months wasn't based on anything, just randomly when I thought it might be nice for her. She didn't like it at first but now likes it alot, however she prefers when mixed with fruits over plain. Curious what others decided.

Now would be fine. There is no reason for you to hold off on it once you have introduced solids.

DS is 9 mos, and I just started giving him whole milk yogurt this week, with no eczema flare-ups or anything. He loves it.

The guy in the dairy department in our supermarket was telling me that there is a yogurt made for babies, which they can have at 6 months and up. My DD is 8 months and I have given her the plain organic yogurt as well, she loves it!

What I understand, the "YoBaby" yogurt marketed for babies is just plain organic yogurt mixed with "baby safe" fruits...And sugar! It's better IMO to just give plain yogurt and add your own fruit. Babies don't need sugar!

Are you allergic to anything? Family history of allergies? If not, introduce whatever you want except honey and hard nuts (nut butters are fine) whenever you introduce solids.

The only thing about the YoBaby yogurt that I can't find in other yogurts in our supermarket is that the YoBaby yogurt is full fat (which is better for LOs brain development, etc). Maybe other people's supermarkets have full fat plain yogurt do.

Also, it does have sugar but it is real, organic sugar as opposed to high fructose corn syrup found in other yogurts.

So, yeah, there are probably better alternatives to YoBaby, but its way better than a lot of the stuff in the yogurt section.
