baby breakfast ideas?

I am in a breakfast rut and have been for years. I always have 2 eggs from my backyard chickens and some green like spinach or kale. Now that I am also feeding 9.5 mo DD 3 solid meals a day (she wants it--I wish she didn't want to eat solids that much but I can't help it) I need more ideas for her. I'm personally happy with my breakfast rut but I want her to have more variety since I want her to experience lots of foods.

So far my 3 breakfasts for her (I rotate them) are:

-Scoop of plain whole milk organic yogurt mixed with fruit like pears, banana, blueberries, melon, mango with ground flaxseeds added in

-Oatmeal with fruit, parsley, and kelp powder, sometimes I add coconut oil or flaxseeds

-Hard boiled egg yolk (this one isn't her fave but I really want her to eat eggs so I do offer it)

Any more ideas?

I think rotating a few breakfasts is a good idea. I'm not sure you really need to do more than that though, so don't put too much pressure on yourself. There's plenty of time throughout the day to try other tastes.

My DD eats the same few things for breakfast every day:

-Scrambled eggs
-Oatmeal
-Ezekiel cinnamon raisin toast
-Bacon
-Waffles or pancakes (on rare occasion that I make them)

Otherwise we don't eat anything for breakfast other than that, so why get her used to wanting anything other than what I usually make?

These what DD and I have for breakfast

-Fruits, yogurt and Earth's Best Graham Sticks, she likes to dip them in the yogurt.
-Hemp Oatmeal
-Waffles/Pancakes
-Scrambled eggs/Omelette with toast/bagel/english muffin spread with hummus/cream cheese
-Cheerios (Im not a breakfast person and I sometimes feel lazy)

Not much variety here either, but she seems happy. I do vary a lot the fruits I give her.

Why not offer her a whole scrambled egg? My DS tolerated it no problem at her age and it is SOOO much easier than hard boiling the egg and peeling away the white.

For the longest time my DS had whole milk organic yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed banana, and organic pumpkin puree mixed together for his breakfast. He didn't get tired of it until just last month. Now I am giving him eggs, banana, cherrios, and sometimes some whole wheat toast with peanut butter. I miss the old "easy" breakfast!!

What is Hemp Oatmeal? I'm really curious. I use hemp seeds a lot but have never thought about giving them to DD yet.

Your basic breakfast sounds fine. For a variety of tastes I'd just make a side of different fruits and vegetables.

She could do far worse than getting used to a healthy kick of proteins, fats, and leafy greens in the morning. Definitely don't replace that with grains or sweets.

( since I was thinking kale, I first wrote "sea vegetables" instead of "leafy greens")

Homemade miso soup. I make it for me & my DD every other morning (we eat half the recipe each day) I use 4 cups of water (or kombu dashi) toss in one chopped onion or 2 green onions, 2 T of dried wakame, some 1cm cubed tofu, half a sheet of nori cut into baby bite sized pieces, and 3T of miso.

DD loves it.

We also do diced veggie morning stir fry. I don't eat eggs but DH does so before the egg scramble gets eggified we pull out half the veggies.

ohhh and black beans w/ cumin over rice is a big hit.

I make a batch of banana breastmilk custard on the weekends and feed DS some for breakfast every few days. Just blend together 2 ripe bananas with 3 egg yolks (raw) and 1/2 cup of breast milk (or regular milk if you want -- I have lots of extra breast milk on Saturday's from pumping at work on Friday). You can add some cinnamon, nutmeg, and or molasses if extra flavor and sweetness if you want. Then pour into small ceramic or glass dishes, place in a baking pan, cover half way with boiling water and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes. You can store it in the fridge all week and just grab one when you want to serve them for breakfast. DS loves them, they are super easy, and it's another way to get eggs in. You also could do a piece of rice cake with fruit puree or cooked egg yolk mashed with breastmilk or plain yogurt spread on it -- DS likes that too, but it is pretty messy.

How come you all have already started your LOs on yoghurts and cow milk? Aren't you waiting until the 1 year mark - for fear of allergies?

My DD already has confirmed dairy allergy...so I have no option but to wait but am a bit amazed that everyone is already starting.....

current recommendation from the AAP says you can give allergenic foods from the get-go, unless of course there is a reaction.

I think this is one that families have to determine on their own. My DS is also allergic to dairy, but he ate meat, eggs, etc starting at 6 months.

Unless there's an allergy or a family history of allergies, no need to wait once the baby's past 6 months and started on solids.

Obviously, as with all foods, you watch for reactions.

We've been doing leftovers from dinner (), oat bran with fruit puree for sweetening, eggs, veggies, fruit, yogurt, granola, etc. A favorite of my 12 month old is scrambled eggs on brown rice with HOT sauce or kimchi! She's a little crazy though.
