Dreams and Gender

I'm 12.5 weeks pregnant, and hoping for a boy. Of course, I will be happy with a healthy baby of any gender! That goes without saying. But since I have two daughters already, I'd love to experience parenting a boy. My husband would too. I will hopefully be able to find out the gender in about 5 weeks.

When I was pregnant with my now-18-month-old daughter (before I found out what her gender was), I had a dream that my husband and I were shopping for dresses for a baby girl. From then on I was pretty sure we would be having a girl - and I was right. Last night I dreamed that we had found out we were having another daughter. In the dream, we were happy that our 18-month old would have a sister to play with, and were trying not to be disappointed that we'd never have a son (I'm almost 40 and this is the last one!).

This made me wonder -- has anyone else had dreams about their baby's gender, and did they turn out to be accurate? Just a fun question!

I was convinced I was having a girl until at 16w or so I had a dream about this baby being a boy and chasing him (at about 2 yo) around the beach. Sure enough, this is supposed to be a boy.

when I was 7 or 8 weeks I had a dream that someone walked through my bedroom w/ a sign and shouting 'MY NAME IS SARAH'. It was weird. I had premonitions with our son before he was born that he would be a boy. But this dream was just odd. Not really a dream, more like a vision. But I'm still having boy thoughts about this pregnancy. So maybe it was a visit from the little one I lost. We won't know if this one is gonna be a boy or girl until the birthday.

with my first I always dreamt that I was having a boy... we had a girl!
this time I've only dreamt that I'm having a girl... and she is a girl!

A woman I know who studies birth and pregnancy for a living(an anthropologist) said that there was a study done about this very thing. She said that when women had "instincts" about what they were having, they were right 50% of the time. BUT, when women had dreams about what they were having, 80% of the time they were right.

I didn't have any baby nor gender dreams with my first 3 pregnancies. With this pregnancy I dreamt that I had a girl born in the water. I'm due now, so we'll see what happens. I had boy, m/c, boy & ???

When I was pregnant with my son - even when I knew he was my son (due to cheating and finding sex out at scan lol) - I dreamed of a girl. The same girl. It wasn't a baby girl. It was a little girl. And she couldn't have possibly been our child - but there she was. She was our son I guess...

This time around, I keep dreaming of having a little boy. Usually a baby boy. My son is always in those dreams and the little boy is always on me in a sling. Which is how its gonna be really - for the first few months at least! hehe... So I am thinking perhaps its a girl this time?

You know something special though?....First time around, DH didnt have dreams like that. This time around - he has had TWO dreams of me giving birth...and both times have been little girls!

I kinda want a little girl - so I am trying not to get my hopes up just in case! hehe

I don't doubt a mother's intuition. I'm almost certain this is a boy based on intuition. I'll find out for sure this Friday. However, I think that your anxiety about this being your last chance at a little boy is creeping into your subconcious an affirming your disapointment that you may never have a son. Therefore, if I were you, I would not let this dream discourage you. I guess we'll find out soon enough. Keep us posted when you find out the gender please. Good Luck! =)

I was sure it was a girl, absolutely sure. boy. The one baby dream I had, it was a boy. But in my gut, I just knew it was a girl. Wrong. Dreams are better than intuition I guess.

I keep having dreams that it's a girl and she wants to be named Vivian (which is a name I can't use as a friend has already claimed it).

That said, I think I remember having several girl dreams with ds3, and obviously those were wrong.

...I think I'm nervous about having another girl (we have one, and that's ENOUGH!), so I don't know how much credit to give my dreams. Are they predictions, or just stress and worry?

Hey RedOakMomma... maybe "she" would settle for Vivian as a middle name? It really is a beautiful name. I might steal it if I have another girl!

But seriously, my two girls are quite different. One is loud and dramatic, the other quiet and introspective. So whatever it is that makes you nervous about having another girl, "Vivian" could be a different sort of girl than that... just a thought!

I wouldn't be surprised if I get the boy I'm hoping for... and then, when he's climbing the furniture and taking apart the DVD player, I might wonder why I was so hopeful of having a boy.

With my first, DH and I, as well as a close friend, all dreamed we were having a blonde haired boy even before we conceived. It continued until I was 7 mos. pg and then I had a dream that I had a girl w/ dark, curly hair and I knew her name. We have a wonderful little girl w/ lots of dark, curly hair! I haven't had any dreams this pg,so I'm curious if we'll get our blonde boy this time. We tried to find out at the u/s last week, but baby was feeling shy.

How amazing that you were right, HaikuMama!!

I've only had one gendered dream thus far and it was of a little boy (I was shocked! I remember taking off the diaper and checking many times during the dream..lol)! I should be finding out soon -- I'm 39 weeks now!!

With DS, I had a dream we were having a boy. I dreamt we were at an U/S, and they had a special new kind of U/S machine that would show you what your child would look like when grown. So, I saw our boy grown up!

This time, I only had one dream before finding out the gender. I had a dream we were having another boy. We're having a girl!

So, who knows?? :-)

I've felt intuitively since even before I conceived that I'd be having a girl. After I got pregnant, when people would ask, I'd say I'd be very surprised if I was wrong. I had one very vivid dream that I gave birth to a baby boy, and he was so so precious. When I woke up, I felt like I would be overjoyed with either gender. But after a week or so, my feeling that I was having a girl came back even stronger. I could hardly come up with any boy names I liked.

Anyway, I was right all along, in spite of my dream. I'm having a little girl!

My gut told me we were having a boy but on three occassions I dreamed of a girl and my dreams were right on. Seems dreams are more accurate than intuition, I guess.

I"m a huge believer in dreams. I think it's your intuition telling you something.

With my first preg I really wanted a girl but I had a very vivid dream about a little boy complete with a name. It was SO real that I just knew I was having a boy and what his name would be. Spot on. Not only is he a boy, he couldn't be any better suited for his name that he "chose" in the dream.

This pregnancy I had a similar dream only this time is was a little girl also with a name. Ultrasound revealed a dughter and we have allowed once again for the dream to determine her name.

I'm so curious about this also! So far, I've had two dreams of a baby girl. My husband has had one dream that we were having a boy.

Interestingly, my intuition tells me we're having a boy, and my husband insists that it's a girl. I guess we've got all our bases covered, huh?

It's going to be such a fun birthday surprise to find out!!!
