Beach stroller recommendation anyone?

Thread Starter
we are in a cold snap, so my thoughts have turned to summer....and a question about gear.

My db with be 8 months old at the start of summer. We are daily beach goers when the weather allows, and carry lots if gear--food, boogie boards, one or two surf boards, plus pails, shovels and books for all. This year we will also want some kind of umbrella because of the baby.

I usually go alone, meeting up with friends there. We have to walk quite a ways to get from theparking lot, through the pavilion and down the beach to where surfing is permitted.

My oldest will be ten, and he and his brother ususally can just manage their boards.

I need to get a stroller for the beach (I have a decades old jogger that is impossible to fold, and a cheapo umbrella stroller so what I have won't do. I could possibly go without a stroller and just cart the gear, but DS will still need a spot to nap AND he's already 17lbs at just over 3 months).

Does anyone have a great recommendation? Money is an issue but I do plan on spending something. This is, however, our last baby so I don't want to spend billions. I need something that folds nicely and easily, something I can load a lot in, and that is easy to push in wet and dry sand. (something that makes and packs lunches and lathers sunscreen on children would be great to)

What have you used that might work for me (or that won't--I'm interested in finding out about lemons to aviod, too.)

Thanks, and keep warm!

Honestly, I've never seen any stroller work on the beach, maybe a jogger would? We have one of those wonder wheeler beach cart things and it is awesome for hauling all of our stuff though.

We bought the bugaboo for our first since they advertised how great the wheels were for the beach. Oy! Not so great. We now have a double BOB and it's been good for the beach. We take a lot of stuff also and I've loved it. It has lots of storage and the sun shades are great, imo. I don't think any stroller will necessarily be easy to take on the beach, unless the kids aren't in it, you know? But the BOB is my rec! Have fun! Mary

I would take a wagon! Some of them have the seats with the straps, and if she isn't stable enough for that, you could wear her and pull the wagon.

I'd go for the wagon too.

Wear the baby, and have one of the big kids pull the wagon (or possibly two or a wagon plus trailer with the amount of stuff you mentioned.) When the baby wants to nap, just make a bed inside the wagon.

We see the Radio Flyer Ultimate Family Wagon as pretty popular here in Hawaii

I was also going to suggest a wagon, I've only ever seen people stuggle with strollers at the beach we go to.

A wagon is a great idea! I don't know that any strollers work well in the sand... except when DH is carrying it to our destination, so the lighter the better!

Wear your smallest child and get one of these for all the stuff:

We sprung for a Roleez brand folding cart about a decade ago and it still works great and carries coolers, umbrellas, toys, you name it. We like to go to state parks where there is a huge walk to the beach, and this is the only way I can swing it myself.

I used to take an older BOB stroller when we went to the beach, too. I took long walks in the surf with it. Great workout! DD would fall asleep during the walk and then I'd just park her and let her nap. The sunshade was nice to have. Just be sure to hose any stroller off well after each use or the sand and salt will ruin the wheels.
