Question RE: States that do EOG testing

We are in NC, and DS will be required to take the end of grade tests each year.
My question, however, is how does that work if he's at different levels?

Here's the situation...
If he were attending public school, he wouldn't be attending K until Fall 2011, when he's nearly 6 years old (b/c his birthday falls after the state cut-off). I plan to start K with him THIS Fall when he turns 5, esp considering he's already working on K stuff right NOW (very lax, but he asks for lessons, and it's where he is academically)

At this rate, by the time I would have to report to the state at age 7, it will be 2012 and there's no telling what grade 'level' he will be at when that time comes. So, does he just enter the NC 'system' as a First Grader in 2012 when he turns 7 and tests as that level each year no matter what?

It's all purely hypothetical b/c I have NO idea where he will actually BE at that point, but it really had me wondering how it works.

Are you a member of any NC homeschooling groups? My DD is only 5.5 so we aren't registered yet nor have we started testing, but I think the testing actually takes place in the Spring...at least I've seen a ton of messages about them recently with folks coordinating them, etc. Some people have asked similar questions recently and I admittedly just deleted them because I don't need any of this for a few years. But, I've found the local HS groups to be the best source for these questions.

My DD has a late summer birthday so we don't register until June 2012, like your DS. My DD is in her K year now though. So, she'll basically be the equivalent of a rising 3rd grader by then! I cannot even imagine what her "level" would be at that point. She's all over the board right now so it's impossible to predict.
