ADHD Inattentive - help?!

My beautiful, social, smart, amazing boy has just been diagnosed with ADHD Inattentive. I know nothing and don't know where to begin as far as diet, resources, books, etc. I want to start with diet intervention before I can get to the reading, which will take more time - can anyone help me with all of this???

I would get a copy of "The Mislabeled Child" by Brock Eide and Fernette Eide and read the chapter on ADHD. They give an overview of useful interventions and other advice.

WebMD has an overview of diet suggestions for ADHD: http://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/guide/adhd-diets

A lot of people recommend supplementing with fish oil. It has good support from research:

Delivered from Distraction is an amazing, positive book that gives an overview of treatments as well as other information.

Dr. Kenneth Bock's book "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Asthma, and Allergies: The Groundbreaking Program for the 4-A Disorders" has good advice on dietary changes and supplements.

If your ds is in school, you might think about consulting with the OT if you can. There are sensory input devices that can help with classroom attentional issues, ie weighted lap pads, etc.

I would also recommend this book.

My son's behaviour improved quite a bit after I took him off dairy (esp. anything with the dairy protein casein). If you can, begin by removing all preservatives, msg, and food dyes from your ds's diet. Those aren't good for anything, anyway! Then think about eliminating dairy and/or wheat, which seem to be the biggest culprits.

Hey, welcome back!

I've heard good things about the Feingold diet and kids with ADD/ADHD.

I eat this way to help with other issues, but it was originally for kids with ADD/ADHD.
