My dd just turned 4 and ever since she has had this "thing" about putting her fingers in her mouth (and other objects). She hasn't done this since she was 2. I was kind of wondering if maybe her last set of molars were starting to come in but this seems to early (I thought they came in at age 5 or 6??). Do you think this behavior may be teeth related, or could it just be a phase? I've asked dd if her gums were sore but she says, no, which may or not mean "no."

I was gonna say 12, not counting the wisdom teeth at 18 but that's not what you meant, lol.
It looks like the first molars come in about 1 1/2 and the second ones come in about 2 1/2. The 6 yo molars would be next. Kids vary a fair bit so the 6 yo molars could come in at 5 or 7. Here's a chart. http://www.ada.org/public/topics/tooth_eruption.asp
