Dog fur in diaper

So my baby has been constipated the past week. It started the day after we gave her tylenol 2 nights in a row for her teething. She is breastfed, no solids yet, and usually poops 2x a day. I figured the tylenol caused the constipation, and we would just never use that again.
Finally, tonight I get her "uncorked" with a glycerin suppository. What do I find in her diaper (along with the blowout )? A good amount of DOG FUR. Not in clumps or anything, just scattered around in there. Obviously the fur wasn't in the diaper before it was used, so what the !?? Was the fur causing the constipation? CAN it cause constipation? I have four dogs, help!!!

that's interesting. is this the first time you've ever seen dog hair in her diaper -- and it was in the actual poop? does she have an opportunity to eat dog hair?

i keep picking stray hairs out of my son's diapers, but they are usually *my* hairs (postpartum shedding i guess) and i'm most often catching them in his dry diapers, or after we have had a shower together.

i would think that, yes, eating hair (dog or otherwise) would be constipating. if this were me, i would be very vigilant about 1) sweeping/vacuuming all stray dog hair; 2) brushing the dogs or having them professionally groomed to remove more hair; 3) watching the baby when she is on floor time to make sure she's not somehow eating the dog hair.

good luck with it!

Are you sure some of it at least wasn't already in the diaper? I try hard to keep clothes & bedding & diapers fur free but inevitably it gets in there anyway.

I'm constantly finding my own hair everywhere... even wrapped around his scrotum. The cat hair is almost as bad (except it's shorter). I do have to work to keep the cats off his blankets though, since the blankets go straight in his mouth every chance he gets.

So maybe a bit more diligence as to the things she puts in her mouth / surfaces she lies on and the fur... put down a clean sheet/blanket/tablecloth first if necessary (I have tablecloths just for this purpose).

But if you'd ever had cats, you'd know that fur can absolutely be constipating.

There was too much to just be stray hair. And now that you mention it, I am probably shedding as much as the dogs! But I've tried to be so careful, we don't let the dogs upstairs in our house, and upstairs is where she does 99% of her floor crawling. I'm just thinking to myself, this can't be what I think it is, it has to be the tylenol, right? Right?

are you sure she was actually constipated? ds is about the same age and will go a few days between poops sometimes. as long as the poop isn't hard it's ok. I wouldn't really worry about it unless it continues to happen. You probably ingest a lot more hair than you realize.
