4yo: "I forgot how I used to nurse"

It seems that DD2 has suddenly, overnight, lost the sucking reflex. Her latch looks fine, but when she nurses it hurts like heck. Today she said "I forgot how I used to nurse" and "How come I don't get milk anymore?" I still have milk (although not a whole lot LOL) she just isn't getting it. I worked with her latch today, and it appears to be a textbook latch, just the sucking isn't right.

So, has this happened to anyone else? She is getting frustrated and I am in pain. I am ready to be done and she appears to be nursing more out of habit than need.

Since you are ready to be done...what would happen if you said something like that to her? Oh, nursing doesn't seem to be working, how about a snuggle? No milk, well would you like a drink in a cup? I'm guessing she was not nursing alot before this...

That's the really weird thing, she was probably nursing 8-12 times during the day, as well as nursing to sleep and perhaps twice more during the night. So strange. I've been flustered and baffled, and probably not much help in the situation, and she was frustrated. I'll just take a deep breath and ask her if she wants to snuggle instead.

I am currently nursing my 3 yr old..so i understand where your at as i dont see him being done anyttime soon..
but 4 is about the avg limit..I think even in other countrys 5 yrs old is usually the longest they nurse
maybe its just natures way of saying its time.....its hard but has to eventually happen to every one
I know that part of me isnt looking forward to him weaning but he cant nurse for ever..
