Stumped by the Mayawrap

DD does well in the Moby and it's great for wearing out of the house. I got a Maya wrap to wear around the house and for the summer, but I have yet to figure it out. When I try to do the upright tummy to tummy hold (she hates being in a cradle hold unless she is nursing) the rings get all up in her face or on her arm. I'm probably not doing it right but I've followed all the instructions on their video.

How do I nurse in the Maya wrap? Any tricks?

As is, it is basically useless to me because I just figure out how to use it properly. DD is just now 10 lbs. Is she too light?

Being that she is so little will make it a little more challenging, I would think. Have you tried putting the rings up higher onto your shoulder than is comfortable, just while you are putting her in it? I would suspect they are sliding down as you tighten it up since she is so little.

As for nursing in it, when they are small, I still found the cradle hold to be easiest. From the tummy to tummy hold, I would swing baby's legs around to cradle (head away from the rings was easiest), and use my arms to support. Once baby was latched I would just flip the tail over her for privacy/less distraction for dd.

I don't know if either of those help, but I have to say that the maya wrap sling is by far my fave. It's worth trying! You can also try doing a more upright cradle with her by putting her he ad toward the rings if that is easier, but I always preferred head away from the rings for some reason! Also when they are that small, placing a receiving blanket under their bodies while they cradle can leave them less buried in the fabric. She may not mind a cradle hold if she is a little more upright and can see.

Good luck!!

DD is hating the Maya wrap. She doesn't like having her legs froggied in the tummy to tummy hold. Is there a way to do it with legs out for a 2 months old? I haven't even tried the cradle hold because we don't get that far...

I don't see any reason that you couldn't put her in chest to chest with you with her legs out. Just make sure to put the bottom of the sling under her bum and up to her knees so that she's sitting and not hanging.

My girls never liked the froggy leg position either.

It's been several years, but I remember that while I loved my Maya wrap, this was a problem. I learned to put it on so that the ring was further back on my shoulder, even to the point of being on the back of my shoulder, so that when I tightened it and it moved forward, it'd still be a good deal out of DD's way. In fact, now that I think about it, I remember actually wearing it with the right on the back of my shoulder... it seemed to take some pressure off of me that way, too.

for wearing help and instruction, there are some good videos on the Sakura Bloom website, and on the Zolowear site. I have an unpadded Maya, too. I think a big part of ring slings is a large learning curve. You'll get the hang of it!
