change in breath?

Thread Starter
I've recently set limits on our night time nursing (DS is 4) meaning that he can nurse down to sleep, but then that's it until the sun comes up (more concrete than "morning time").

Since doing that, I've noticed a change in DS's breath. He's always had sweet breath even if he woke up in the morning after not brushing his teeth or whatever and recently it's become a little more stinky.

Have others found that there's a change in breath when the amount of nursing is reduced? just curious....

Can't say I remember w/ my twins, but it would make sense. If he was nursing at night, it was flushing his mouth and removing bacteria. Now those bacteria are sitting in there all night long.

I just noticed the exact same thing as we nightweaned and I dried up due to pregnancy. DS's breath doesn't smell bad exactly, but definitely different.

yes i've noticed it too.

Yup, now that you point it out. DS's "morning" breath was very much correlated with night-weaning.

Yes I noticed that with both of my kids.

Yep, my nurslings have always had sweet breath until they weaned (only my oldest so far).

As per the forum guidelines, I'm going to move this out to Breastfeeding Beyond Infancy.
