Roll Out Bed as a Solution?

DD and DS come and go into our room. DD is much more interested in sleeping alone, but DS still wants to go to sleep in our room (even if we're not in there) pretty much every night. He's 5. DH usually moves him when he goes to bed, and about half the time DS wanders back in at some point during the night.

DH really wants no one in our bed at this point. I don't mind. Truthfully, DS snuggles with me, and it's comforting. I also cannot tell him that he has to go to his bed when he cries. I very rarely tell him that I'd like him to go to sleep in his room (usually because DH and I have argued about it), and he cries. DH says he knows crying makes me feel bad. Yeah, it does, and I know that he knows it. I still can't help feeling bad about it.

DC both still sleep in transitional beds, but we are going to need to buy them twin beds very soon. I thought about a queen bed for their room (they share a room), but DH is adamantly opposed to it (not quite sure why). I'm thinking of getting some type of cot/futon/roll out for one bedroom or the other for me to sleep with whichever child needs someone to sleep with. Has anyone done this? How did it turn out?

When DD went to her own room we gave her a Full so if one of us wanted to sleep in there with her for any reason we could, and after she'd been with us in the Queen it seemed a bit small to put her in a twin.
