I hope Haiti soon gets this for their children before the rains start and a tragedy becoming even more tragic, if that's possible.

I'm pretty anti-vax here, and while I'd MUCH rather see the focus (and success) on getting a good supply of clean water, decent nutrition and solid medical facilities in the area, I would probably be in support of this for nations at serious risk such as many in Africa. DS had it when he was 2 1/2 yrs old and lost 9 lbs in 9 days. The difference is that we had clean water, a hygenic house, disinfectants, and quality medical attention if needed. My son was able to lose 9 lbs because he had a diet rich in nutrients and vitamins that built his body strong enough to tolerate it (he was still so painfully thin afterwards though). If he had gotten worse he'd have spent time in the hospital with an IV for fluids and the chance of him not surviving was very, very low. Over there it's a completely different world and situation. Nine pounds can mean death, as can the lack of any of the things we have here. As I said, I'd rather see an improvement in the living conditions overall, but until that can happen, I think the potential of death from rotovirus outweigh the evils of the vaccine in this particular case.

I was just reading Doctors Without Borders website and they are starting to see a rise in diarrhea among children. Once the rain starts and water sources become further contaminated, it's going to be absolutely devastating to children. I hope they get the vaccine there soon.

It is amazing how quick diarrhea illness can kill children. I'm glad the vaxes are coming. I just hope it is soon enough to save lives.
