A while ago I posted about the issues I had with my almost 6 year old daughter and reading. Since I've backed off (we weree using the ordinary parents guide to teaching reading, i've since stopped the lessons in that book and we're going over words she already knows because lots of sentances are hard for her to read right now)
Now I write 3-4 sentences in a notebook introducing a new sight word every few days and lots of work on the words she has already worked on. She draws a picture at the end of her favorite part of the little story I wrote in there.
A few times a week we go over a bunch of flash cards of short vowel sound words.
Should I do any more at this point? The only words she really knows are sight words, everything else she still needs to sound out. I've also done word bingo and a few other games and have a bunch more to do. I don't plan on moving forward to anything more complicated right now, but when? When she can read all her short vowel sound words without sounding them out? Or when reading a few simple sentences doesn't seem to bother her? Not sure what our next step should be, or even what our goal should b right now.
