Queston about Lochia -- not trauma, just concerned

Gave birth vaginally 2.5 weeks ago and still bleeding bright red. Midwife told me to slow down postpartum. Took her advice and on the 10th day it was pinkish then yellow. Now 18 days in postpartum it's bright red again with little clots.

Is it possible that it could be a real period? I know a very small part of the placenta had remained but I passed a big clot 2 days in that I'm sure was what that was. I don't really have any cramps or pain and no tears--all is intact. Just small spurts of the bright red stuff right after I breastfeed. It's supposed to be brownish now and it isn't.

Is it possible to have the bright red bleeding past the 6 day mark? I know lochia is supposed to last 6 weeks after birth.

Just curious if anyone has experienced this.

I had the same kind of off and on with the bright red blood for weeks after I gave birth too. My midwife also said that that was a sign that I needed to slow down and rest more. Although if it's happening after you breastfeed, it's likely caused by the contracting of the uterus with your baby's suckling(even though you don't feel it). Happy babymoon

I had bright red blood for 4 weeks. Not tons of it, but still.

I had bright red for a little over three months postpartum it finally stopped after I started taking some vitex. And then two weeks later I got my first post-baby period. I agree it's probably just a sign to slow down but if you're concerned definitely bring it up with your MW or OB. For me, no one was even concerned when I was still bleeding bright red at 3 months (although it was pretty concerning to me), so I'm not sure at what point you're supposed to start worrying.

Ah thanks -- Good to hear -- sometimes it's just an individual thing I'm assuming. We all heal on our own time. I'll mention it again if it hasn't changed at my next checkup, in 3 weeks--but yeah I wasn't sure if it should cause concern or not. It's my first baby, so wasn't sure.
