Afterbirth cramping

my baby is 8 days old, and i had the normal afterbirth pains, which hurt pretty bad. took ibuprofen for the first 3 days, then was fine.

now i am having intense painful cramping again. my bleeding isnt too heavy and i have no signs of infection, just horrible cramping.

Why is it doing this 8 days postpartum? is it normal?

IF you are sure you have no fever, then probably. I remember being MUCH crampier for a good two weeks, and it came and went. Especially when my daughter got really good at nursing. Also, after I had my daughter, my cramps in general were just much worse than they'd ever been.

Make sure you don't have a fever and check in w/ your midwife if you start a heavy bleed........your bleeding should be slowly tapering off. Otherwise, it sounds like what I encountered and I was told it was pretty normal and I was fine, if not concomfortable. It sounds weak, but I honestly had the best comfort from a nice hot water bottle.

I would be worried if you have intense pain that is persistent and/or a fever. My sister had a uterine infection after giving birth to her #1 and those were the symptoms.

I'm so sorry you're in pain still!!! I don't want to say it's nothing to worry about /c I have no idea. Just wanted to let you know that my mom says the afterpains w/ me (her third and last child) were the worst. So maybe that has something to do w/ it since this is your third also.

I hope your mw is able to calm your fears and help you feel better.

I think a few weeks is normal for afterpains. I remember feeling mine for at least 10 - 12 days. And I've heard from a lot of women that the cramping gets worse with each consecutive child. I know a woman who nursed each of her 18 children ! She said that by number 12 or so, that the afterbirth pains were much worse than the labor contractions! She still did it though!

I think it sounds normal tho... man they do take your breath away tho don't they

It was just that one day then its been fine since. This is actually my 5th baby and man, they are awful. I do think they are worse than birth!
