Oooh, I just found my next project(s)!

So, I "friended" weallsew.com on facebook, and get updates periodically (COOL site, friends!), and found this basket tute in my newsfeed. I just built shelves in my kids' closets and was chagrined at the cost of baskets or bins to put on the shelves to organize the kids' stuff...only NOW I can make them myself. When didn't I think of that!? I have a TON of scraps that I can use that will coordinate with their rooms' decor, and the baskets are SO CUTE! And I believe they would be easily enlarged or made smaller, by simply changing the size of the patchwork squares.

another idea is if you have any old outworn denim jeans (my boys go thru tons each yr) I actually save them to make denim rag quilts but the scraps from them could easily be used in these baskets. Those are some cute baskets I'll have to keep the link in my ever growing craft "to do" list

I love doing sewing projects with cast off jeans. Do you think I could skip the fleece batting if I used denim? Maybe skip the lining, too, using just one layer of cotton prints and one of denim? I strongly prefer projects which require no money and I have no batting....

K-mom3 To make them pretty study you will probably need an extra layer of something. Old fleece blankets, old towel, extra layer of denim....

I'm NEARLY done with my "sewing for hire" for the month, and when I am done, I'm gonna try one out (yes only bigger--to fit on their shelves and store toys and the like).

Just so ya know - I made this last year for an easter basket and it is REALLY small, a lot smaller than the pics make it look. I think it held like 4 eggs!
You can probably make it bigger, but it wont stand up as well unless you use that very stiff interfacing, and that stuff is expensive (in that case it would be wayyy cheeper to just buy those $5 fabric cube shaped bins from target)

It is super cute though!

Oh and there are lots of tutorials for fabri binx/ boxes/baskets - just google 'fabric box tutorial' or whatever and a few will come up.
