What's your bathroom theme?

Just curious. We're moving to a new house soon and I'm wondering if I should theme my bathroom. Any ideas? What do you have?

Also, anyone have any ideas for storing bathroom stuff (hair brushes, deodorant...) without under the sink cabinets? BTW- I'm in a non-western country, so I don't know what I'll have for storage units.

well...we have a house that was built in the 80's and is grey and pink and our theme is use what we have because it is functional but I have always loved light blue and white for a bathroom. I like the idea of using shelving and pretty glass bowls for storage (not sure if this is practical for you).

I love these kinds of threads!

Our master bathroom is light purple (walls) and white (most everything else) with a few little touches of green and soft colors. It is a small space, roughly 6x9 total. I store the washcloths rolled up on a wicker shelf. I store toiletries in the master closet in a cabinet I already had. We have a double towel rack on the wall and an 8-hook rack over the door and two robe hooks on the back of the door.

Our guest bathroom is brightly festive with aqua walls and a very colorful shower curtain and framed single, bright, colorful flower prints (greeting cards) on the walls. We don't really need any storage in this bathroom yet. It is DD's bathroom and eventually we may need something further. For now, she has her hooded towel on a hook next to the main towel rack and two robe hooks on the back of the door. This bathroom is identical in size and shape as our master bath. The only difference is this one has a tub/shower and ours is just a full-size shower (no tub). They are both tiny (approximately 6x9, ceiling measurement, not floor ).

Our powder room is a deep cranberry color (walls) with white main items and a few splashes of bright cobalt blue (color that runs throughout the downstairs) and a big bunch of sunflowers. It is tiny (3x8), but feels more comfortable in the deep cranberry than it did when it was "swiss coffee" (off-white that may as well be called "dirty white"; DH always thought it WAS white... LOL). The laundry room is between the hallway and the powder room and the laundry room is a rich, creamy off-white (Innocence by Behr) that is definitely NOT white. White trim looks great with it. Anyway, the effect of the deep cranberry set way back is really nice as an accent wall to show off one of my favorite paintings that we framed ourselves (as in made the frame from raw materials).

In all cases, we utilize vertical storage on the walls and doors. Good luck!

ok, our bathroom's theme is -- clean bathroom.

white walls, white appliances (except the shower is blue), white floors. silver towel rack. white shower curtain, white towels.

we also have no 'under counter' storage, so i like to use shelving. right above the sink is a little shelf where i keep a pottery cup (made by DH) that houses the tooth brushes and paste. over the washer, i'm putting up three shelves to hold cleaning supplies and anything that would normally go "under the counter." to keep it looking neat, i like to use baskets and then i label the baskets. everything is hidden that way and it looks nice and neat.

i love a clean, neat bath!

Our bathroom is a green that reminds me of a spa.
Our sink is white, the cabinet is dark wood w black countertop(beautiful but a pain, everything shows up on it).
We have a white over the toilet storage with two wicker baskets on top(where I keep womanly products, so if we have a guest that needs something they dont have to go through our cupboards to find them). I have handtowels and faceclothes rolled up and on one of the open shelves.
The shower curtain is white with a green fern pattern and the curtains are a white with a white embroidered paisly print(left over fabric frm my wedding dress).

The only things on my sink are soap and a buddha inscense holder...I LOVE my bathroom, it feels like the only finished room..the one thing I want to add is a plant holder hanging in the window

most stuff is white, with turquoise, aqua, lime etc accents. we have this toothbrush holder:

and coordinating rug and towels, and our white tile shower has one row of 1" square tiles in these colors. the tile was our jumping off point. we chose the tile (dh did the work) but i would do the same thing in a bathroom that has existing tile/fixtures in a really specific color - i'd work from that.

I'm still living with other people's color choices, so I've had to make the best of the pink counter in my master bath. The room is painted gray (it almost looks purple in bright sun) with white linens and accessories. All of the decorations are white or silver.

I can't find pics of our main bathroom. It's green (again with the color choices), and I have some cute close-up flower prints from Ikea hanging up. ETA: I have the same pics as sunnysandiegan

ETA: I found some REALLY old pictures from our previous home. The pics of my DD are making me laugh- she was about 1.5 in that picture and now she's 8 Anyway... Our 'master' bathroom was a tiny 1/4 bath with no storage. You can see from the pics that I used the little white shelf and baskets to store all of our toiletry items. I love the blue and white of that bathroom- it looks to crisp and clean to me.

The bathroom I re did is wave/ocean themed. We didn't do anything major, just painted mainly. We took down the old owners flower border and painted the walls and the back of the door in three toned blue with foaming waves at the demarcation zones. Bought wavy mirrors from Ikea and put them up, painted the cupboard black, bought face plates and a toilet seat to match (black) and a nice ocean/palm tree pic to hang above the toilet. The counter is still yellowish, but that's OK because we bought a nice mat that's the same color-ish that reminds me of sand. And we got the soap dish/toothbrush holder to match the rug/counter, in a seashell motif.

same here!

No themes, in any of our 3 bathrooms. They all look similar, as the tan tile is the same. Here's part of the master bath.

Annethcz- your pictures show exactly the type of sink we have in the house we're planning on renting. Whatever we do will have to be very spartan and neat. I'm liking the shelving unit with baskets. Anyone else have any more ideas for storage? Anyone do cloth TP and want to suggest ways to store that, both before and after use?

The bathroom is white and I'm planning on putting all my "Africa" stuff in that room (I only have one flat basket now, but would like to buy more). I'm going to have dark brown towels. Thats about as far into the planning I've done yet having just seen the house yesterday.

But, I'm still looking for more small bathroom storage ideas, please.

is there any wall space for shelves? because that option (shelves plus baskets) has been brought up twice. behind the toilet is usually a good option.

also, stacking baskets or bins could work under a sink that is open (has no cabinet). or you can put a skirt around the sink (not to my tastes mind you) and then hide stuff under there in any old thing you want.

The walls are concrete, so we'd have to create some really big holes to put up shelves. Otherwise, yes, there is wall space. I should probably just go out and see what this country has to offer.

i've always liked an etagere over the commode and a towel rack or rack of hooks hung on the back of the door
post #15 of 18
yup, you'd have to put in pretty big holes. there might be some shelves that go around things--eg, around the toilet--that are freestanding.

Here's a pic of our set up. Nothing fancy, just folded washcloths on the back of the toilet and a little covered trash can for the used wipes. We keep a few magazines in the bathroom also.

I also think that a freestanding unit over the toilet like Zoebird suggested might be a good solution for you. I'd be leary of putting big holes in the concrete walls of a rental home.

We based ours around my favorite spa, but we also has a completely blank slate to start with. I wanted something very crisp, but also just soothing. I like bright colors, but I wanted the bathroom to be relaxing, since we put in a nice deep soaker tub.

Spa: Spa
Bathroom: Room View

Tub View
