has anyone tried the Skechers Shape-Ups or similar shoes?

I'm due soon and am soooo looking forward to getting back in reasonable shape. My DH and I have a habit of walking a couple brisk miles through our neighborhood every evening when he comes home from work. I have quit doing it in the last few months because of a pre-term labor scare (the walking really gives me contractions) and am so itchy to get back on the road. I keep seeing advertising for these goofy-looking shoes (several brands make a version, the Skechers Shape-Ups are the ones I can remember the name of) and am wondering if investing in a pair would help amp-up my walking a bit as I'm trying to get back in shape post-partum. If I could just squeeze a bit more out of the walk it seems like that would fit into my schedule a lot better than trying to add something else to my day. They make claims about helping you with posture and toning, which would all be great if it's true.

Anyone tried them or a similar pair? I'd love to hear some feedback, especially specific to the post-partum situation, if anyone's used them then. Thanks!

Totally! A mom who takes her kid to my kid's ballet class wears them out in the world, and, well, while her rear-end *is* quite toned (I don't know her well enough to know if it's the shoes!), I'm not sure it would be worth the trade-off to wear them out in public like that. In my case, though, I'm not particularly invested in my shoe fashion just while walking through my neighborhood, which is when I'd wear them. Right now if I make it out at all, I'm wearing pajama pants, because that's what still fits.

I have them!! I wear them for my early morning walk (It's still dark ) I like them I can feel it in my legs, but you have to walk correctly in them to get the benefits. I got them for Xmas

Reebok makes a pair that aren't so silly looking. Haven't tried them yet though!

Yeah, my friend has the Reebock easy tones and they look like normal gym shoes.

I wear the Skechers ones when I walk for exercise and when I walk to take my kids to the park. I don't know if they are really helping to tone me, but they are seriously the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn!!! They are awesome. Mine are silver and white and I don't think I look all THAT goofy.

I have a knock-off brand of them. Well, it's the same idea but they look like normal shoes. They're more like the reebok ones than the skechers.
I definitely think they're doing something! I am no more active than I was pre-shoes, but I got them...3 months ago? And my thighs/butt are noticeably more toned and I have a lot less cellulite. I almost always wear them, because they go with just about everything and even if they don't I really couldn't care less about fashion, so whatever. I'm happy with them, and they were only $30ish.

Knock off name and place of purchase, please?

I have MBTs and I do like them, they seem to make me stand up straighter, and I do think they are working my muscles a little better than my regular shoes. Most of all though, they are sooooo comfortable.

So, these shoes help you ton your thighs and butt? I ask, b/c I have a problem with calves that are huge (all muscle) and don't need any more toning. So, I don't want to get something that will target the calves more.

I've heard somewhere (duh...) that this type also helps with varicose veins. Does anyone have experience with that? Of course anything which gets "things moving" in the leg muscles would be of benefit.

I got them at Payless, I think the brand is Champion, but I'm not totally sure on that. They're called Stride n Tone.
