Getting tired of trying...

I'm trying so hard not to get frustrated. We've had one pee on his baby toilet, but that was a month ago. I've also stopped EC for the past week, because I was sick, but now I'm getting back into it again.

When I started out I went to fast and expected too much and had to stop due to me getting irritable with missing all the time. I was advised to start slower, so when I felt like I could handle it better (after we moved), I have been working on trying to simply catch pees when DS gets up from naps and give cues while changing diapers, etc. Well, he pees EVERY single time I go in to get him after his nap. I actually listen too to try and catch him right when he wakes up. So, I've been trying to put him on the baby potty periodically in between naps as well, hoping to maybe catch one while giving him cues. I feel like we've had no success and I just really don't know what to do. If there are any better ways to go about this, please let me know!

How old is your son?

I wouldn't even worry about catching pees in the potty. If you can catch him peeing anywhere (in his diaper, on the floor, on you), use that as an opportunity to teach him what he's doing. Do you cue? Some parents use the "PSHHHHH" sound when their child starts to pee, and soon you can hold the child over the potty and make the sound, and he/she will pee on cue.

Work on routine and timing (offer pottytunities when he wakes up, after every meal, before and/or after a bath, and after at every diaper change. Some people get help from charting the eliminations to find a pattern (like 10 minutes after eating, every 40 minutes, etc), and offer the potty at those times.

Definitely don't stress about it. Some babies get it right away, and some take a bit of work (or a lot of work). The key really is to back off and follow his lead, rather than driving yourself crazy trying to "catch" every single pee.

Does he squirm in his sleep when he needs to pee? Sometimes Lina won't even wake up for the potty because I spot her squirming and take her to pee (over the sink). Those naps generally end with her nursing and napping for a while though, and then just napping on me because (as with right now, ) I'm too lazy to move from the computer after she's done nursing.
