I have a manual Avent pump that I have for occasional use, I stay at home and feed on demand but I like to have a little bit in the freezer so I can go grocery shopping or whatever without the baby. I've been having decent success with it, usually getting about 2 oz per session, I only pump once a day. So I'm obviously no expert at it. But lately I've had no luck, it's like trying to wring blood from a stone. I can't figure out if it's me or if the pump isn't working. I feel like it's the pump, I can sometimes hear a hissing like air is escaping from somewhere. I'll take it all apart and reassemble it and still nothing. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any tips or tricks? Is it broken?

with the avent...when is the last time you changed out the little white star like piece? i know when i had mine, i would have to replace it every now and then. try calling avent maybe and see if they can trouble shoot th eproblem for you.
with the medela...on the post like piece that sticks out of the rubber cirle piece (specific i know), is there a little white rubber ring in the groove? that's the o-ring. i had problems with mine after dh dicided to chase our dog around with my pump (dumb boy antics, he didn't put the pump on the dog or anything, just was acting sily). anyways, i called medela because i thougth my pump was broken and they asked a bunch of questions and had me check a few things. it turned out that i had lost the o-ring. they sent out a bunch a few days later and the pump was back to working
good luck to both of you!
