Blue walls (need quick help- hoping to buy paint tonight!)

We're finally about to paint the nursery this weekend, and I'm having some serious color angst.

I want to do an "under the sea" room... with a lot of shades of blues/greens. I'm going to have a friend make big felt fish, etc for the walls.

MIL made a very cute quilt for baby, which has a lot of very aqua type colors.

But here's my dilemma. I think I hate aqua for a wall color. It always looks like some sort of dr office color to me.

I worry that light/sky blue won't look good with the bright colors that would make up an under the sea room. Like, I love this lamp, but I think it would look weird with a light blue?

I worry that a dark blue would just be too dark for a bedroom.

Anybody have any of these colors in a bedroom in their house and love it? Bonus points if you have pictures!

I don't have those colors but also wouldn't like an aqua room. Why not do a high chair rail with aqua above or below? Or beige walls with some aqua and green stripes? You could play off that lamp and do some bubbles, too.

Yeah, I'm thinking I might have to do something sort of like that.

In my head the room was going to be blue because I wanted it to *be* under the sea. So, lots of blues and greens, but not any fishy "themed" stuff... just some big felt fish, seaweed, etc...

We did DS's room in a light pastel blue and it could totally work for an undersea theme. It's a pretty neutral color, and in it's short life it's coordinated with John Lennon bedding, a stars-ish theme, Cars (the movie) theme, and will soon be a transportation (trains, rockets, planes, cars) theme.

Watch out, because paint on the wall is always much darker than you think it will be... The sample card for the blue we have was so light it looked almost white, so we actually picked a different blue only to start painting and find it was ridiculously dark! So we switched to the super-light blue and it was perfect.

I think the pale blue is the way to go.
Or you could also go with a darker royal blue on just one wall, and paint the other walls the light blue or even white, or a combination of all.
You don't always have to paint every wall the same color, accent walls can make a striking statement without overwhelming the room, but still allow for a theme to be picked up with other accent pieces (the lamp, the felt fish, bedding, etc).

Here is a fun tool to play with:

You can take photos of your room in question, upload it to this site and then crop the walls, trim, etc and then play with color schemes.

have fun, good luck

I like the idea of pale blue with one darker blue wall.

I had a friend that painted the entire inside of his house DARK blue.. it was actually kind of cool looking.
