Toothpaste for toddlers

So my son loves to brush his teeth. Hes been doing it for months now. Of course just with water but I think we may be close to actually moving on to using actual toothpaste. Is is just shy of turning 2 and he has all his teeth, minus the 2 yr molars. I know I want to get a fluoride free toothpaste but here is the thing. DS doesnt like sweet or fruity flavors. He wont even eat fruit! (but thats another post) he is the only kid I know that doesnt like sweet stuff. All the toothpastes out there that I have seen are either fruity, minty or bubble gum... all of which I know he will hate. Anyone know if anything without a flavor or very very mild? Also where is a cheap place to get it?

You could try the Weleda range. They even have a salt toothpaste! There are some other unusual flavours too.

Otherwise you could dip his wet brush into baking soda if you think he needs more cleaning power than water alone.

That's actually what I was going to suggest as well. We use their kids gel here, it has a mild minty taste without being overly sweet.

He shouldn't be using a toothpaste with fluoride because he can't properly spit out yet.

thats the one I actually had my eyes on. Im still concerned about even the mild minty taste. seriously ds is SOOOO picky. He doesnt eat fruit or juice or sweets. What kid doest like cookies? lol well good for me I guess, less cavities and such but it does make things like this a little harder. I guess we wont know till we try it.

fwiw, the Weleda kids' gel tastes like absinthe to me. I don't taste mint at all. *shrug*

The Weleda toothpaste has been a big hit here. So much so that my dd tries to eat it . We also use the Spry infant gel, which I don't think really has a flavor and my kids don't try to eat it . . . .

We use Weleda, and then Tom's or Kiss my Face (both have plain tasting versions).

We use the Weleda and it's reasonably priced and lasts a nice while. Hope your DC likes it.

another vote for weleda. that's what we use.

We've used weleda for 4 yrs now and I really liked it for my first dd as a toddler. But lately when we use that they both have terrible breath. When we use just baking soda or our spry gel, they don't. ?? Not sure what's going on, anyone else had this?

maybe baking soda?

oh, and my kids also do like baking soda. I figured they would think it tasted funny, but they actually ask to use it about half the time now.

Yup, Weleda is what we use. My daughter seems to love it -- I don't get the appeal, but whatever!

We use the Weleda, too. No breath issues. I like to use it as well. Very fresh.

I was worried about the minty issue too, my dd was grossed out by anything like it, I kept the Weleda around and kept trying, gently. She loves to squeeze tubes and lotions, so we have a tiny trial size one that she can use herself ( with supervision And now, a few weeks later, she loves it and asks for more. I noticed that she is also more receptive to it when we try during bathtime...sometimes its the little things.

Same here - We started with Weleda but when DD was around 2 and half I noticed that the breath was still bad. Switched to storebrand toothpaste and no bad breath. I think some kids need a stronger toothpaste!

my dd never liked all the fruity stuff we went with weleda.
Once you find a brand you like you can stock up on sales at drugstore.com.

We also use the Weleda kids one, the kids (2 and 4) love it. No bad breath. I wouldn't use the salty ones from Weleda, they are also not 100% save to swallow IMO.
