Awesome Experience at OB/GYN Appt

I went to see my OB/GYN today for a checkup. Though he was completely supportive of my natural childbirth, he is an OB afterall and I always thought he was more or less mainstream.

He asked me about my cycle, and I told him I haven't had one because I am still nursing. He was so full of praise! He told me the best thing I will ever do for my child is to breastfeed her as long as I can. He talked about how breastfed babies have fewer ear infections, etc....all the things I already knew. It was just so nice to hear all of that coming from someone in the medical community. He encouraged me to keep going past two years, which was originally my goal.

I left his office feeling so happy. It was so nice to have my doctor not only support my extended breastfeeding but to actually commend me for it.

That's great! I have actually been pleasantly surprised in that I've never encountered criticism from a medical professional about extended breastfeeding. I've always experienced either simple acceptance or praise. I saw a new dermatologist and he had a lot of nice things to say about nursing! The worst professionals I dealt with WRT nursing happened to be postpartum nurses and hospital lactation consultants when my daughter was a newborn and I was having a hard time establishing nursing.
