Help! Can someone explain Bum Genius diapers?

OK, probably a stupid question, but the baby's due soon & it needs to be asked! I ordered a dozen BG diapers and they came with inserts or liners or doublers or something.

One is just a flat piece of cotton, the thickness of a towel.
The other is a thicker piece of cotton, with snaps, presumably to adjust the length.

Do I use these things together? Just throw them both in? Or are they both for different purposes? Could some experienced mama please enlighten me?

TIA!

The thicker one is the regular insert, and yes, the snaps are to adjust it for length. The smaller, thinner one is a doubler. It's to add in if you have a heavy wetter or for overnight/long naps when they will be in the diaper longer.

Stupid me! I used the thin ones all by themselves when DD was first born. For quite a few months actually! Didn't have leaks either! This is the first I knew that they are just doublers!

Congratulations OP!

You're not stupid, silly! The smaller insert is a doubler/newborn insert. It's intended for both purposes! To use as the insert when your little one is newborn and tiny, AND to double up later for heavy wetters and overnight.

Thank you for explaining that to me. Apparently it's not intuitive

FWIW, when you do use the one with the snaps put the bulkier end at the back of the dipe. At first I was putting it in the front (thinking that ds would need the extra absorbency there) but it was too bulky and I couldn't get it to lay right in front (if that makes sense). It works just fine when the bulk is in the back!

Also, it is microfiber, which is a form of polyester and a standard material for pocket inserts, not cotton. Just so you know and are not confused when you are shopping or reading about diapers.
