Kids getting sick without a fever...why?

I have read so many times that a fever should not be feared because it is the body's defense against illness. But I have noticed that most of the time when my kids get sick, they don't get a fever. Why is that? My DH and I do when we're sick, but not the kids. Is it possible that because they have a stronger immune system, so the body doesn't have to "go that far" to fight illness off?

FWIW...I say I think they have a better immune system because they don't eat some of the junk we adults do , they haven't been vaxed, and I think I take better care of their health than my own (bad I know).

I think part of the reason people talk about it is that some kids whose health isn't great don't run fevers. Now, if a kid seemed to have good health generally, I wouldn't consider not running one an issue, but for my DS, for his first two years, he didn't run fevers and his health was a bit shaky, and as he got healthier, he started running fairly high fevers.

So I think that's part of why it's talked about as much as it is, but that really doesn't address the underlying reason there's a variation between healthy people.
