my DD has learned to stand up in the cot and kind of throw herself at the side of it and rock it back and forth so that only two of its legs are on the floor. Is this dangerous? Is she likely to get it to fall over? I sometimes leave her in it whilst I go to the bathroom and wash her nappy, but I'm anxious about doing this now. Could it be time for a bed already? it seems awfully early to me.

How old is she? That does sound unsafe! If you don't think it's time for a different bed, then certainly look into ways to keep all four legs on the floor... perhaps straps like they sell for bookcases/heavy furniture to keep it from tipping over?
My littles all co-slept and then moved into a sibling bed... the sibling bed is (currently) a queen sized air mattress so that it's easy to get into/out of and if they roll out during the night there isn't much of a drop. Perhaps a twin sized air mattress (under 20 dollars) would be an option for your little one?
